Wayne Rooney jokingly commented on his physical condition after scoring an amazing free-kick for the Manchester United Legends against Celtic during his comeback at Old Trafford.
The exciting game, which collected more than £1million for the Manchester United Foundation, finished in a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes. Gary Hooper scored to equalize Rooney's amazing goal in the 42nd minute.
The team from United, led by Bryan Robson and including players like Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes, Dimitar Berbatov, and Rooney, ended up losing in a penalty shootout in front of a crowd of 33,000 at Old Trafford.
Rooney's impressive free-kick towards the end of the first half was definitely the standout part of the game in terms of skill. The amazing shot caused a loud cheer from the fans of United in the crowd.
Celtic's goalie Artur Boruc could do nothing but watch in awe as the shot curled past the wall and into the upper left corner of the goal.
"I'm pretty comfortable with the ball at my feet. It's just all that running that gets me!" Rooney said jokingly to MUTV after scoring.
"I wanted to take more shots, but I also wanted to maintain possession of the ball."
Wayne Rooney, who is 38 years old, scored Manchester United's first goal from a free-kick at Old Trafford in two years.
Before the game started, Rooney, who is currently the manager of Plymouth Argyle in the Championship, confessed that he was feeling nervous about returning to play again after being away from the sport for such a long time.
"I have to admit, it's a little intimidating. It's been a while since I last played a game," he expressed.
However, I am excited about returning to the field and reuniting with the fans.
It's always wonderful to reunite with former teammates and also connect with players I haven't had the chance to play alongside before.
The ex-captain of both United and England was thrilled to participate and help support a 'worthy cause'.
The Manchester United Foundation has done fantastic work. I have been a part of it for a while now and have seen the impact of its efforts up close, which is really impressive.
Whenever we can offer assistance to try and help with that, it is always wonderful to do so.
'It's a wonderful initiative and hopefully it benefits many young kids.'
