Wayne Rooney is Plymouth’s top target for vacant manager’s job
Plymouth Argyle is interested in appointing Wayne Rooney as their new manager. The club is really keen on giving the ex-England captain an opportunity to return to the field of management and lead the team forward in the Championship.
Rooney has been jobless ever since he got terminated by Birmingham in January, just 83 days after signing a deal that was supposed to last for three and a half years.
Plymouth is eager to discuss more with Rooney, who has a connection with the club’s director of football named Neil Dewsnip. Rooney and Dewsnip had worked together before in Everton's academy.
The people at Argyle have also had discussions with the previous manager of Sheffield United, Paul Heckingbottom, regarding the available position. Dewsnip took over as the caretaker manager at the end of the season, following the removal of Ian Foster, who was previously the coach for England's Under-20 soccer team.
Beforehand, Rooney was in charge of DC United and Derby County. Last February, the 38-year-old accentuated his goal of making a comeback to coaching.
According to him, the event in Birmingham was a setback. However, he's not giving up and is determined to return to the game. He recognizes that getting sacked is an occupational hazard of being a manager, but he believes that it's important to keep going despite setbacks. He took some time to reflect and is confident that he will do better in the future.
