Cesc Fabregas was excited when Wayne Rooney shared that he had gained knowledge from watching him.

Fabregas, who played for Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona at different times, was definitely one of the top midfielders of his era.

Even though Rooney primarily played as a forward, he was frequently used in different positions towards the end of his playing days.

Fabregas and Rooney are both working as pundits for the BBC's coverage of Euro 2024.

Rooney and Fabregas shared a meaningful moment when Rooney admitted that Fabregas served as his inspiration.

Cesc Fabregas was really happy when Wayne Rooney shared that he had gained knowledge from him.

Gary Lineker asked Fabregas who the best player he played with was at finishing, and he said Robin van Persie.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Fabregas mentioned that he has had the privilege of playing alongside some amazing players in front of the goal. However, one player who has consistently surprised him since a young age is Robin van Persie.

I believe Robin had a more precise touch. His performance on the field was exceptional and he always had a knack for scoring amazing goals. We used to spend countless hours practicing together when we were younger, even after training sessions.

Lineker mentioned how Rooney also teamed up with van Persie during their time at Manchester United.

Fabregas said that out of all the players he had played with, Robin van Persie was the most skilled at scoring goals.

Rooney found motivation from Fabregas on how to partner effectively with van Persie.

He asked if you studied Cesc's playing style by watching videos when you played alongside him at Manchester United and switched to a number 10 position.

Rooney later shared that he would frequently observe Fabregas for inspiration while he played in the midfield position.

Rooney stated: 'I observed Cesc, as I was playing in a more withdrawn position. Cesc and Robin had a strong connection, so I understood that would be my responsibility, and I studied many videos of you [Fabregas].'

Fabregas inquired Rooney if observing him was beneficial, to which the ex-Manchester United player responded: "Yes, it was! I believe I then made some passes, which you were typically known for doing to make Robin shine. So I was in a different role. I was the one providing assists, but yes, I studied a lot of your technique."

Rooney went back to Everton after leaving United, and then went on to play for DC United and Derby County.
