Brough: “I'm Glad I Could Score For The Team”

21 Feb 2023

Faye Brough sent the Watford faithful into raptures with her home debut winner, and said it felt “really good” to secure all three points at Grosvenor Vale.

The Japanese forward had only played five minutes for the Hornets prior to her introduction in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over MK Dons, but quickly settled into the action against the Buckinghamshire side when called upon by Head Coach Damon Lathrope.

Controlling Anne Meiwald’s throw-in before a clever turn and finish, Brough was delighted to make such an immediate impact for her new club, having joined in January.

“Coming on, I knew that all I was supposed to do was score a goal and it felt good to get the win,” said Brough, 22.

“[Lathrope] said we need a goal, and I’m glad I could score for the team.”

The Golden Girls mobbed Brough when the ball rippled the net, and she described how it felt to celebrate the completion of a dramatic comeback with her teammates and the supporters.

“The atmosphere was really good, the fans were cheering us on and it was great to play in,” continued Brough.

“Throughout the time I was on the pitch, I knew that the defenders were really close to me, and if I turned, I would have a clear shot on goal. Luckily Anne gave me a really good pass inside the box and I had a shot on goal, which went in.

“Everyone congratulated me, it felt really good.”

With Portsmouth next up on Wednesday night (February 22, 7.45pm KO), Brough is keen to make a statement against the league leaders, as the Hornets mount their own title charge.

“We want to win the league so winning the next game is very important, and as a forward I need to score,” Brough added. “I’m looking forward to it.”
