An eight-year-old boy has tragically lost his life due to gunshot wounds to his head and face at a farm.

A man in his sixties, who was arrested on charges of severe negligence leading to someone's death, has been granted bail and released.

Cumbria Police announced that they received notifications about a boy who had been hurt by a gun in Warcop on Saturday around 2:50 PM BST.

The child was transported to the hospital by air ambulance, but unfortunately, he passed away during the night.

A representative from the Cumbria police stated that the gun was safely secured at the location.

Authorities are still looking into the details of the situation and are urging anyone who may have seen the event or the events that occurred just before it to step forward.

A local from the nearby village of Brough informed the PA news agency that he was passing by the area close to the A66 dual carriageway on Saturday afternoon when he noticed medical personnel, police vehicles, and a helicopter.

Frank Chalmers mentioned, "I drove by the farm at roughly 3 PM. I noticed a helicopter with its blades not spinning and medical personnel making their way up the hill. There were quite a few police officers on the scene, with possibly five police vans present. Additionally, there was a car parked in the center of an open field."

It appeared to be quite serious. They generally don't come out in such large numbers.

The 73-year-old retiree described the location of the incident in Eden Valley as being "extremely remote."

David Wood, a resident of the Brookside neighborhood in Warcop, expressed that it was "extremely upsetting and surprising" and referred to it as "a true tragedy."

He expressed, "I'm really shocked, though it's hard to put into words. It's a life that ended way too soon."

"We may not be familiar with the family, but the realization that a young boy's life has ended is sure to touch many hearts."

A senior woman shared with the BBC that it was "a truly terrible occurrence."

A local man shared his thoughts, saying, "As a grandfather, you hold your grandkids in the highest regard, and there’s no way to substitute them. It’s just devastating for the family."

"I’m not sure who it is, but their entire family will be heartbroken."
