The rocket company of Sir Richard Branson, a British billionaire, named Virgin Orbit, has indicated that it will have to lay off 85% of the employees as it failed to get new funding.

According to reports from the media, the company will stop its activities for an unknown period of time.

The company has resumed its operations several weeks after they have abruptly halted them in an apparent bid to strengthen their financial position.

At the beginning of this year, a Virgin Orbit rocket was not successful in carrying out the initial launch of a satellite from United Kingdom ground, making history incomplete.

The stocks of the enterprise experienced a sharp drop of over 44% during the trading session that took place after normal business hours in New York City, on Thursday.

Virgin Orbit announced in a document submitted to American regulators that it has opted to cut down costs as it has failed to secure sufficient funds.

About 675 workers will be affected by the job cuts, and they work in different departments of the organization.

The article reported that Virgin Investments, owned by Sir Richard, has contributed $10.9 million (£8.8 million) to support the downsizing expenses, including severance pay, of Virgin Orbit.

According to Virgin Orbit, they anticipate expenses of approximately $15 million in severance pay for dismissed employees along with other expenses.

This news follows reports in the media about the company's leader informing employees that the organization will halt its operations until further notice.

During a gathering with staff members, CEO of Virgin Orbit, Dan Hart, stated that there is no alternative but to introduce immediate, severe, and exceedingly uncomfortable alterations. This report was initially disclosed by CNBC.

The BBC reached out to Virgin Orbit for a comment, however, they have not responded yet.

The company, established in the year 2017, has been unsuccessful in making a profit ever since it went public.
