Virat Kohli, an Indian cricket player, was named as the Player of the Tournament in the 2023 ODI World Cup due to his outstanding performance. He managed to score a remarkable 765 runs in just 11 innings, setting a new record for the most runs scored in a single edition of the tournament. This achievement has surpassed the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 673 runs in the 2003 edition.

During the 2023 World Cup tournament, Kohli accomplished nine scores of fifty runs or more, which is the greatest any player has ever achieved. This surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record of seven scores of fifty runs or more, which he achieved in 2003.

Kohli kicked off the mission by smashing 85 runs against Australia in Chennai. His impressive performance helped India win the match quite easily, even though they were in a precarious position after losing three wickets for only two runs at one stage.

After scoring 74 runs in the previous game against South Africa, he played a supporting role to India's captain Rohit Sharma, who smashed 131 runs, during their match against Afghanistan. He then made an unbeaten score of 55 runs. In the upcoming match against their rivals Pakistan, the Indian batter didn't perform as well and only managed to score 16 runs. However, in the following match against Bangladesh, he came back strong and scored an impressive 103 not out.

When Kohli played against New Zealand in Dharamsala, he scored a wonderful 95 which resulted in a victory for his team. However, in the next match against England in Lucknow, he was unfortunately dismissed without scoring any runs.

In Mumbai, during the game against Sri Lanka, Kohli managed to score a whopping 88 runs and helped India amass a total of 357 runs. Continuing his impressive form, he went on to score an unbeaten 101 against South Africa. This century also marked Kohli's 49th century in ODIs, tying him with Sachin's record.

During India's previous game against the Netherlands, Kohli managed to score 51 before leaving. However, during the following semi-final match, Kohli had a remarkable performance and secured his 50th ODI ton by scoring 117 against New Zealand in Mumbai. This boosted India's score up to 397. Even during the final against Australia, Kohli proved to be an asset by achieving 54 runs before being dismissed due to an unfortunate inside edge at a pivotal moment in the game.

Kohli scored a lot of runs, with an average of 95.62, which helped India make it to the final without losing a game. Unfortunately, in the final match, Australia was able to defeat India and become the winner of the ODI World Cup for the sixth time in history.
