First Leg Complete - Vernon Did It!
Day one of the extremely long marathon: FINISHED.
Vernon kicked off his day bright and early at 8 o'clock in the morning, and he has made exceptional advancement by sprinting for nearly the whole span of more than 26 miles.
Nicola reports that he appears to be a little exhausted, yet he is sporting an enormous grin on his countenance.
Matt Weigold from Radio Derby was present at the end point of the race. He seems exhausted, to be honest. However, his earlier estimated time of arrival was ten minutes past five!
We were aware Vernon had the capability to achieve it, however, we didn't anticipate he would progress so rapidly on the initial day.

Vernon is almost done with the first day. He spoke to Scott Mills and mentioned that the amount of public encouragement he received is beyond belief.
Many people are standing on the side of the road giving us money for our donation bucket. I'm at a loss for words, truly. I don't want to become too emotional as I'm completely exhausted. The donations we've been receiving and the people who have run with us are greatly appreciated. - Vernon Kay

Jordan North Encourages Vernon
"There will be an obstacle to overcome each day."
Rewritten message: It may come across as cliché and sentimental, but it's important to keep in mind the reasons and the people for whom you're doing it. Even if you feel like giving up, remembering the various charities that benefit from your actions can serve as motivation to keep going.
Last week, the host of Radio 1 had a conversation with Vernon on a dedicated episode of Children in Need Tracks of My Years.
Tasty Flapjacks Held Up 1pm News
Vernon Crosses Derbyshire Border
Scott Mills caught up with Vernon while he was getting a thorough massage (deep tissue manipulation).
Our eager athlete was feeling discomfort in his thighs - his muscles tightened up in the final 4 miles. Therefore, he requires our encouragement and backing now more than ever.
Assisting him along the journey is Matt Weigold from BBC Radio Derby, who is wearing a t-shirt with the phrase 'Yearnin' for Vernon'. This t-shirt could potentially become a popular fashion item for the current season.
Victoria Inspires Vernon Crossing Into Derbyshire County
Victoria said that she could sense the tiredness in the tone of the speaker. She found it very emotional to hear the speaker start off. Victoria also admired the speaker's thoughtfulness and determination, considering them as one of the best traits she has seen in a person.
Vernon expressed his appreciation by saying, "I am deeply moved to hear those words spoken from you."
Vernon has only six miles left to run today before he can enjoy a refreshing ice bath and a relaxing massage in preparation for tomorrow's 40-mile run. He encourages anyone who has a free day tomorrow and a pair of running shoes to come and jog alongside him and his team. This sense of community has been a huge motivation for Vernon on his journey.

Supporting Vernon The Superhero: Tips & Tricks
We are all honoring Vernon as he embarks on his exceedingly challenging Ultra UltraMarathon Challenge in support of BBC Children in Need. He has a deadline of Friday morning to cover the distance from Leicester to Bolton solely relying on the force of his own legs.
If you wish to make a donation, you have the option to do so by referring to the information provided below or visiting bbc.co.uk/vernon.
Jeremy Vine invited Liam Sharp as a guest to the show. Liam Sharp is an expert on superheroes and has illustrated famous comic books like The Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and X-Men. During the show, they discussed the characteristics of a modern day superhero.
When talking to Vernon over the phone, he mentioned that he admires both his parents as well as classic superheroes like Spiderman and Superman. In particular, he has great respect for Christopher Reeves in his portrayal of Superman.
"We're very close to reaching the next stop which is just a mile and a half away. Honestly, my knees and hips on both sides are aching. I cannot emphasize enough how much the support, especially in Belton, has lifted my spirits!"
It's almost time to have some flapjacks.

Newtown Linford's Scenes Today!
The kids of the primary school in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire gave a warm welcome to Vernon as he arrived in their beautiful village.
Exactly what he required to motivate himself for the initial day, which is regarded as "the quickest day," of his Ultra Ultramarathon Challenge.
Vernon Gets A Warm Belton Welcome!
Yep, it's Belton, not Bolton. Vernon still has some time until he gets to Bolton.
Not too long ago, Jeremy Vine chatted with Dawn from Belton who expressed that the village was "completely packed with folks, and it's amazing. He's going to receive a huge amount of applause. I drove approximately one mile away from Belton, and he has a colossal hill to ascend. I'm positioned at the top with a delightful container filled with newly made flapjacks."
Dawn remained on the phone with Jeremy until she could see Vernon and his team. After learning that he was just 600 meters away, Dawn remained at her current location with her flapjacks.
As Jeremy and Dawn reached the top of the hill, they exclaimed "flapjacks!" both on the radio and during a phone call. This caused a lorry to halt on the curve, creating a sense of anticipation. Consequently, the 1PM news broadcast was postponed due to the heightened tension. What a thrilling moment!
In the end, Vernon arrived and exclaimed, "Hi Jeremy, we have the flapjacks!" with a smiley face. He proceeded to express his gratitude to Dawn by saying, "Jeremy instructed me to give you a tight embrace, so here it is. Thank you so much."
Keep it up, Vernon! We trust that those pancakes provided the necessary energy for you.
"Precautions For Vernon's Safety"
Phone Call With Jeremy Vine And The Runners
Host, BBC Radio 2
During his appearance on Radio 2, Jeremy Vine spoke with Dan Frost, a runner who participates in UltraMarathons and is supporting Vernon, a runner who has already completed 13 marathons. Frost expressed his amazement at the generosity of people who are stopping on busy roads to donate money.
Vernon gave Jeremy a brief update, expressing how grateful he was for the tremendous support they have received from Radio 2 listeners. They have covered a distance of approximately 15 miles so far and have two new running companions from Ivanhoe Running Club - both of them women. Despite having a massage on his left leg, Vernon is concerned that his Achilles tendon might be his weak spot.
He is stopping to get more fuel every 7 miles, which is great because he has been practicing at that speed. While he talks to Jeremy on the phone, people are giving donations, which encourages him greatly. He mentions that seeing people cheer him on from their windows is a big morale boost.
Sending a lot of admiration to all those hitting the pavement to join Vernon and show their support!
In case you come across Vernon while traveling, you can snap a selfie and share a supportive message on Radio 2's social media platforms by using the hashtag #VernonUltra.
Need A Playlist For Your Run?
Vernon has put together a collection of his favorite 90s Dance Hits that never fail to motivate him. He has also included music that he finds helpful in maintaining a steady rhythm, all of which have a BPM of 125. The playlist is not in any particular order.
If you plan on jogging a small distance or a long distance of 115 miles, there are times when a motivating tune is necessary to get your feet moving. You can listen to either of the programs right away on BBC Sounds.
