U.S. Open Golf

It's time for the third significant golf tournament of the year in 2024, and two American players have already won the first two. The USGA has included almost all the top golfers in the world in their most important competition, the 2024 U.S. Open. This week, the players who are looking to become contenders for the U.S. Open will play at Pinehurst No. 2 for the first time in ten years.

Scottie Scheffler is once again favored as he enters another major tournament. Recently, he made news at the PGA Championship, but unfortunately got arrested. However, all charges have been dropped, and he is ready to compete once more. Scheffler has already won the Masters and Players Championship this year but couldn't add the PGA to his list due to the incident. Now, he's hoping to win at Pinehurst, North Carolina, and regain his spot as a champion.

Rory McIlroy is trying to win a major tournament again. Xander Schauffele won his first major tournament, the PGA, and is hoping to win the national championship. Last year's winner, Wyndham Clark, hasn't done well this season but did win a tournament earlier this year. Jon Rahm was a potential contender, but he withdrew due to a foot injury.

Moving on to another topic, Tiger Woods will be making an appearance at the U.S. Open on a special invitation from a sponsor. He hasn't been able to participate in the tournament since 2020 due to health reasons. Unfortunately, he hasn't had much success in major tournaments lately, with his last top 25 finish being at the 2019 U.S. Open. He has also failed to make it to the weekend rounds in four of the last five majors he has played in. Another golfer with a less than stellar track record at the U.S. Open is Phil Mickelson. He has missed the cut in three of the last four U.S. Open tournaments and hasn't placed in the top 30 since 2014. Despite this, he still has his sights set on completing the career grand slam and his six second-place finishes at the U.S. Open continue to be a thorn in his side.
