Police carry out controlled explosion outside US embassy in London
Law enforcement officials conducted a deliberate explosion near the US embassy in Nine Elms, London, following concerns about a potentially dangerous package.
A representative from the Metropolitan Police stated, "We have noted the online discussions regarding an event near the US embassy in Nine Elms. We have set up barriers in the area as a safety measure while our officers look into a suspicious package."
The police later stated: "We can verify that the 'loud bang' heard in the vicinity earlier was a controlled detonation performed by our officers."
The US embassy posted on X that local officials are looking into a suspicious package located near the embassy in London. Metropolitan police are on the scene and have shut down Ponton Road as a precaution. They will share more information as it becomes available.
The Met later stated: "Preliminary findings suggest that the object was a fake device. We will now conduct an investigation. Some perimeters will stay in effect for the time being, but most of the police activity will be scaled back."
