Alexandre Pantoja demonstrated to Kai Asakura that there are different tiers in the world of mixed martial arts.
On Saturday night during the main event of UFC 310, Pantoja dominated the Japanese newcomer, ultimately submitting him in the second round to secure the win. This marked his third successful defense of the UFC flyweight championship.
Asakura showcased his quickness and striking skills right from the start, but Pantoja remained unfazed, taking two of Asakura's trademark knee strikes to the stomach without flinching. The champion also landed some solid hits during the stand-up exchanges, and when the fight went to the ground in the second round, Asakura found himself struggling.
Pantoja secured a rear-naked choke. Asakura resisted tapping out, but ultimately, he was briefly unconscious due to the skilled Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert. This victory earned Pantoja a performance bonus, adding an extra $50,000 to his earnings for the night.
In the co-main event, Shavkat Rakhmonov maintained his perfect record and took that title away from Ian Machado Garry. Rakhmonov won by a unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 48-47 in his favor.
