On Saturday night at UFC Fight Night in Brazil, Jailton Almeida emerged victorious over Derrick Lewis by unanimous decision.
The card showcased several Brazilian fighters competing in their own country, and unfortunately, Lewis didn't fare well in Sao Paulo.
The American, aged 38, recently won by TKO against Marcos Rogerio de Lima. However, it was his fourth loss out of five fights, which is raising concerns about his future in the heavyweight division.
During the match, Almeida exhibited remarkable skills in grappling and was dominant for the majority of the fight, whereas Lewis found it challenging to build momentum.
This 32-year-old was so in control that all three judges unanimously declared him the winner with a significant lead of 50-44, 50-44, and 50-45.
Almeida has not lost a single UFC match in six fights. He has a 22-2 record in mixed martial arts. He's already planning to face his next challenger.
During an interview with TNT Sports, he mentioned that the day before, someone expressed their desire to engage in a physical altercation. In response, he promised to put on a spectacle instead. Did he successfully deliver an entertaining performance for everyone to witness?
We were aware of his powerful punch, and had a small window of time to devise a plan for this brawl. Thanks to our tactics, we managed to dodge his formidable right arm and take him down. Despite his hits, I was unfazed and didn't feel any pain.
Afterwards, he expressed his preference for his next opponent by stating: "I'm about to mention a particular individual. My choice is Cyril Gane, and I am willing to confront him in Paris or any other location."
At the age of 32, Almeida has a successful MMA career with a record of 22 wins and 2 losses. He has yet to be defeated in his six UFC fights.
In the welterweight division co-main event, Nicolas Dalby achieved victory over Gabriel Bonfim by way of TKO. In the heavyweight match-up, Rodrigo Nascimento Ferreira and Don’Tale Mayes had a showdown, ultimately resulting in Ferreira taking the win via decision.
Caio Borralho and Elves Brenner emerged victorious in their battles against Abus Magomedov and Kaynan Kruschewsky correspondingly.
