Jamahal Hill beats Glover Teixeira to win title at UFC 283 in Brazil

06:25

Aaand breathe...

So the Brazilian fans didn't quite get the fairytale evening they were looking for. Mauricio Shogun Rua was beaten into retirement, as was Teixeira in the main event and Brandon Moreno beat Deiveson Figueiredo to win back his flyweight crown. It wasn't all doom and gloom for the Brazilians though, with a strong showing on the pre-lims before Jessica Andrade, Johnny Walker and Gilbert Burns all did the business.

06:16

Teixeira retires

He says: 'I'm too tough for my own good, my own health, it is an honour to put the gloves down on the same night as Shogun.'

06:16

Hill overcome with emotion

'Anything is possible with hard work and dedication, too many people told me I couldn't do it, that it wasn't possible. I had to fight to be here, to live, to have a chance, you can do anything if you're willing to fight for it.'

06:11

50-44 unanimous decision - AND THE NEW

06:10

One way traffic

Teixeira secures the takedown he desperately needed but even after working into mount, he loses position, is reversed and the Chicago-born rising star gets back to his feet. He's been outstanding tonight.

06:03

Teixeira is an animal

There's so much blood in the eye of Teixeira he can hardly see and the doctor is checking it out. He took some ungodly punishment in that round but is ok to continue.

05:56

Teixeira clings on, just

He has so much heart, Teixeira but this has swung in Hill's direction in a big way. He looks close to being stopped on the ground with Hill landing heavy ground and pound but shows enough to Marc Goddard to carry on. His eyebrow is split open and we enter the championship rounds.

05:50

WHAT. A. ROUND.

Hill badly wobbles Teixeira but then the Brazilian finds a takedown and spends a couple of minutes dominating without ever threatening a finish. Hill works back to his feet and they slug it out, both swollen and cut. A cracking fight so far.

05:44

Strong start for Hill

Early encouragement for Hill as he stuffs four or five Teixeira takedown attempts. The Brazilian will be discouraged by that too. The younger man looks far more powerful and dangerous on the feet without having landed any devastating blows so far. It will be interesting to see if Teixeira is playing the long game, not expending too much energy.

05:37

Here we go!

05:35

Timeless Teixeira

The former champ surely has to be slowing down he's more than a decade older than his opponent but has all that experience to lean on. It's tricky to predict how this will go but the bookies have Hill as a slight favourite.

05:29

Can Hill silence the crowd?

The fans are booing Hill as he walks out and they just pelted Moreno with beer, cups and all sorts as he was escorted back to the dressing room. He had a big grin on his face and didn't seem to care whatsoever. Hill is a great KO artists and could put Teixeira out but the Brazilian will want to take it to the ground.

05:25

No objections to the stoppage from Figueiredo

05:24

MAIN EVENT TIME

05:19

'It felt like an eye poke'

'It is time to leave this division, I've done a lot but now I'm moving up', say Figueiredo. I felt an eye poke, I thought it was an eye poke and hopefully I don't have any lasting issues with my eye.'

05:12

IT IS ALL OVER - MORENO WINS

The doctor won't let Figueiredo continue as his eye is closed up completely. It was a clean punch that did it and Moreno legitimately wins his belt back, edging the quadrilogy overall and sending the Brazilian probably up to bantamweight for a change of scene.

05:10

The champ is up against it

Moreno lands a solid shot and Figueiredo claims he's been poked in the eye. Herb Dean sees nothing out of order and allows the Mexican to carry on. He then spends the rest of the round in top position, landing occasional ground and pound but working the clock and dominating. The Brazilian might feel he needs a finish.

05:04

Two in the books for Moreno?

Moreno could have just about edged the first but it was close and he spends a decent amount of time in top position in the second too. He was taken down early but escaped and some of the scrambles are brilliant to watch. They are so evenly matched and at this point both men have an answer to what the other does.

04:52

Superb opener!

Moreno finds himself fighting off a choke early on. The champ has a tight grip but isn't in quite deep enough to secure it and eventually the Mexican pops back up. He then lands some nice shots and has the better of the standup exchanges before Figueiredo ends the round attempting a leg lock.

04:50

Here's the Burns finish

04:48

Next up - The UFC's first EVER quadrilogy

Figueiredo and Moreno know each other incredibly well having shared more than an hour of octagon time. Maybe this will come down to who wants it most in their fourth outing. Moreno will be desperate to avenge his last decision loss to the Brazilian and win back his old flyweight title, but the Brazilians have dominated this main card so far and the champ will be out to continue the trend.

04:33

He wants Colby next

'Everyone running away from me, I'm coming. I'm going to be champ. These guys aren't on my level, I'm going to beat everyone. Colby Covington, I'm coming for you!'

04:29

BURNS WINS BY SUBMISSION

Incredible performance from Burns. He takes Magny down with a body lock, works his way to mount and then finds a head and arm triangle to force the tap.

04:20

Next up - Gilbert Burns vs Neil Magny

A really tasty welterweight match-up now with Burns, who arguably should have been given the nod over Khamzat Chimaev last year, aims to bounce back in style. Magny has more wins than anyone in the division's history but has never managed to been the very best. Whoever wins this one will march towards a title shot.

04:09

213 significant strikes - 114 to the head!

04:05

A mental fight.

I have no idea how Murphy toughed that out for 15 minutes. Her face is an absolute mess having absorbed heavy shot after heavy shot. Andrade outclassed and overpowered her opponent and frankly, Murphy's corner should have saved her. Guaranteed fight of the night bonus.

03:58

How is Murphy still standing!

Maybe this should be time to throw in a towel. Andrade is battering Murphy from pillar to post. So many heavy shots without reply, albeit without dropping the American. You feel her corner will be considering pulling her out.

03:52

Huge start for Andrade

The Brazilian is just a pocket rocket with so much power. Murphy sustains more than 20 leg kicks and can hardly land any shots of her own. Andrade was landing at will in the opener and really hurt Murphy on a number of occasions. Can she find a killer blow in the second?

03:44

Next up - Lauren Murphy vs Jessica Andrade

Murphy is a veteran of the game and vastly experienced but she is the biggest underdog on the main card. Andrade is a powerhouse and Brazil are highly likely to go up 2-0 on this main card. These flyweights will be looking to put on a show and keep up the momentum Walker gave the crowd.

03:35

Jose Aldo is inducted into the Hall of Fame

What a legend and fully deserved as the retired former featherweight champion is praised by his peers on a video on the big screen. He looks emotional alongside his wife in the crowd. A lovely moment.

03:29

A brutal finish

03:28

A huge win for Johnny

Walker: 'Look at all these beautiful people in my country. I can generate power from anywhere, I don't need anything. I don't give a f**k who is next, this is my division now!'

03:25

WALKER WINS BY TKO

Wow. After a cagey opening couple of minutes, Craig grabs a single leg but Walker hammers him with a solid right hand before following up with nasty hammer fists. A really short and really tough night at the office for the Scot.

03:20

Can Craig live with Walker's stand-up?

The jiu-jitsu specialist looks as intense as ever, while Walker seems easy and breezy on the walk to the octagon. This is going to be a fascinating contest but I don't give it much chance of going the distance.

03:10

The perfect opener...

Paul Craig vs Johnny Walker is a real blockbuster to kick off the main card and the Scot previewed his clash with Sportsmail this week.

03:02

MAIN CARD TIME

02:51

The end of an era

'Sorry I wanted to end with a win, thanks to my fans, I've been in the game 21 years and this is it for me,' says Shogun.

02:46

POTIERIA SPOILS THE PARTY

A huge roar went up from the crowd when Rua landed a dizzying combination to send his man wobbling slightly. Potieria then bounced back magnificently with about a minute to go in the first. He landed a big shot to the temple and poured on the punishment from there. Rua can still walk away hugely proud of an amazing career but that may leave a bit of a bitter taste.

02:36

Time for the final pre-lim - Shogun's last stand

Mauricio Shogun Rua is a bonafide UFC legend and makes the walk to the octagon for the final time tonight. The former champion will be able to lap up the crowd acclaim and aim to go out on a high on home soil. He faces a tough ask against Ukrainian Ihor Potieria.

02:27

Ferreira will be a problem at welterweight

02:21

Brunno Ferreira delivers killer KO

Now 10-0, Ferreira just knocked Gregory Rodrigues out cold with a short, straight shot. What a statement to make on his UFC debut. That man has serious, serious power.

02:10

A jaw cruncher

02:00

Moises calls out Pimblett

Everyone wants a piece of The Baddy it seems. Moises, fighting another Brazilian in Melquizael Costa, finishes his opponent in the second with a rear-naked choke. That's his second submission in a row and the lightweight is gaining some momentum. It could be an interesting match-up with Pimblett if they set it up but the Liverpool fan favourite could yet be out injured for a while.

01:50

Gilbert Burns looking the business

01:42

Can Teixeira win back the belt aged 43?

It is remarkable how well Teixeira has performed against younger opposition over the last few years but he just seems to be ageing like a fine wine. He's promised fans he'll be going in to put on a show tonight.

01:38

Verrry slick

01:24

And his brother does the business too!

Gabriel makes it a perfect night for the Bonfim brothers, submitting Mounir Lazzez in the first round. He moves to 14-0 and that was so impressive. Lazzez gave up the neck and was then rolled into mount where he tapped relatively quickly to a guillotine.

01:18

WHAT A KNEE

Terrance McKinney has been talking up a fight with Paddy Pimblett but said he had to take care of business tonight first. It didn't exactly go to plan as he was knocked out cold by this brilliant knee from Ismael Bonfim.

01:09

Brazil vs the world

It has been a long wait for Brazilian fans to have a pay-per-view card back but tonight is shaping up nicely with plenty of their countrymen to get behind. Here, we took a deeper dive into the match-ups on the main card to see how the home fighters might get on.

01:02
