Tyreek Hill was stopped by police and had his hands bound with handcuffs shortly before the beginning of the NFL season due to a "traffic situation".

The Miami Dolphins player who catches passes on the field was stopped by the police near the team's stadium, according to a statement from the team. He was later let go by the police.

A video circulating on social media revealed that Hill was handcuffed and subdued by multiple officers on the side of the road.

The Dolphins reported that Hill's fellow team members witnessed the incident and volunteered to assist. Hill was observed lying on the ground with his face down and his hands restrained behind his back.

The Dolphins announced that Hill, a highly skilled wide receiver in the NFL, will be taking the field in their first game of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday following his release.

"This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was stopped by the police for a traffic incident just a short distance away from the stadium. He was held briefly by the authorities," the Dolphins stated.

"He has now been let go. A few of his fellow teammates witnessed the event and stopped to provide assistance."

"Tyreek and all the other players who were supposed to be at the stadium are here now and ready to play in today's game."

ESPN stated that the 30-year-old had a disagreement with the police and was given a citation for driving recklessly.

Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Hill, stated that the way Hill was arrested was completely unjustified and described it as a tragic event.

He said his client was good to go and will be playing against the Jaguars.
