MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was stopped by police on Sunday near Hard Rock Stadium for a traffic offense but was let go before Miami's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hill was in the game and made a big play by catching an 80-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa for a touchdown in the third quarter. After scoring, Hill pretended to be detained by holding his arms behind his back, with his teammate Jaylen Waddle joining in on the celebration.

Hill ended the Dolphins' 20-17 win with 130 yards catching the ball on seven completions.

Prior to the match, Hill was captured in a video shared on social media lying on the ground with his face down. Police officers were seen restraining him by placing his hands behind his back and putting him in handcuffs.

According to information from ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, Hill was pulled over for driving too fast and then got into a heated argument with the police, leading to him being put in handcuffs.

Hill was accused of driving recklessly, according to sources who spoke to Darlington.

The team mentioned that the traffic accident occurred near the stadium, just a block away. The team reported that a few of their players witnessed the incident and stopped to provide assistance.

The Miami-Dade Police Department shared a statement from Director Stephanie V. Daniels, who asked for a quick examination of the incident.

"We know about Tyreek Hill from the Miami Dolphins being taken into custody by the Miami-Dade Police Department," she stated. "I've asked for a quick look at all the information about what happened, and we're also checking out any body camera videos that are available."

Daniels later revealed that one of the officers involved in Hill's detention was assigned to administrative tasks while the investigation was ongoing.

During a chat with ESPN, Hill's representative, Drew Rosenhaus, described the situation as "heartbreaking" and "completely avoidable." He expressed his concern about ensuring that his client was treated fairly and expressed disbelief at seeing his client in handcuffs.

"We will look into it," Rosenhaus stated. "We will keep an eye on Tyreek."

He said he was grateful that Tyreek is safe and thanked his team for helping to calm down the situation.

Brian McCarthy, who works for the NFL, mentioned that they have reached out to the Dolphins, but he would not provide any additional information.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and The Associated Press played a role in creating this report.
