An ex-engineer who used to work at Twitter revealed that during a virtual meeting, they witnessed their co-workers getting dismissed in large numbers. The engineer compared the situation to observing flies falling one by one.

During an interview with CNN, Justine De Caires shared their account of being let go from their position as a senior engineer at Twitter's San Francisco office, which occurred after Elon Musk's acquisition of the company for $44 billion.

De Caires informed CNN that their week has been incredibly busy with the development of the new Twitter Blue feature. They worked extensive hours, including overnight shifts. The experience has been a whirlwind for them.

On that particular night, I had recently made a modification to some code. Only one hour later, I became aware that several of my colleagues from London were sharing messages, indicating that their laptops were displaying unusual screens and they were unable to sign in.

Gradually, we came to understand the situation and promptly joined a group video call on Google Meets, witnessing everyone succumbing to the circumstances one by one. It left us with an eerie sensation of unexpected change.

During the month of November, Musk terminated the employment of about 4,000 workers to lower expenses. Unfortunately, De Caires was one of the individuals who lost their job.

On November 3, De Caires joined five other Twitter employees in filing a lawsuit against the company. The lawsuit claims that Twitter broke the terms of their contract and also went against the WARN Act, which mandates that businesses inform their employees before carrying out any layoffs.

In simpler terms, the lawsuit claims that employees were told they would still receive a good severance package after Elon Musk acquired the company, and were discouraged from looking for other jobs during the acquisition discussions.

According to the New York Times, Musk has been regularly letting go of employees in recent months. Several workers were unaware of their job termination until they were unable to access their work email or computers.
