Trump lashes out after Colorado ruling removing him from ballot

On Wednesday, Donald Trump expressed his disappointment over the decision made by the Colorado supreme court to disqualify him from running for president next year due to his involvement in the January 6 insurrection. He described this news as a sorrowful moment for America.

Despite the fact that Trump didn't speak about the ruling at a rally held in Iowa on Tuesday night, where he made incoherent speeches against immigration, he has made several angry posts in all-caps on Truth Social after the decision was released on Tuesday.

"How unfortunate for our nation!!!" Trump stated on Wednesday. Similar to his 91 legal accusations and various civil litigations, Trump also exploited the Colorado decision to raise funds.

An urgent announcement has been made regarding my candidacy in Colorado. I have been removed from the ballot. Please contribute as soon as possible.

The Colorado court allowed for Trump to challenge the ruling, and he may take it all the way to the highest court in America. On Tuesday evening, Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, stated that they are certain the US supreme court will make a speedy decision in their favor and bring an end to these "unpatriotic" legal actions.

Even though Trump's team is optimistic about a verdict from the Supreme Court in the future, the recent decision in Colorado has made it clear that the legal discussion about it is quite complicated.

Trump's social media platform, Truth Social, is already displaying evidence of his political views. On Tuesday evening, Trump cited the words of Jonathan Turley, a right-wing legal expert at George Washington University who has taken the stand as a witness for Republicans in the House of Representatives seeking to impeach Joe Biden on unclear allegations of impropriety.

In simpler terms, Trump expressed his anger towards the court's decision and accused them of worsening the situation in the country. He also criticized the court for going against the principles of democracy, as expressed by Turley on Fox News. Trump felt that this decision was the most undemocratic one he had ever witnessed in his lifetime.

Trump edited out a part of Turley's interview where he mentioned that even though he disagreed with the Colorado court's decision, he acknowledged that January 6 was a negative event with few positives.

According to Turley, the incident was not an insurrection in his opinion. He believes it was just a violent disturbance. However, he also feels like those who participated should be punished. If this incidence is categorised as an insurrection, it could lead to similar cases being treated similarly in every state in America.

The highest court in Colorado has made a decision that Donald Trump cannot hold public office because of section 3 of the 14th amendment. This particular section, which is known as the insurrection clause, states that anyone who promised to defend the constitution, but then participated in a rebellion or insurrection against it, is not qualified to hold political office. This section was added to the constitution after the civil war to make sure that leaders who had rebelled against the government - like those who fought for the Confederacy - could not be elected to positions of power.

Turley contends that although Trump's actions led to a riot, it cannot be considered as an insurrection as stated in the 14th amendment.

"If you have a negative opinion about Trump, and blame him for the events of January 6th, then this is not the appropriate solution," he stated.

If Trump's plea reaches the supreme court, there will be discussions surrounding this subject among other topics. However, the supreme court has recently been accused of being influenced by politics. The Colorado ruling not only brings Trump's case to the forefront, but also challenges the neutrality of the US supreme court, which has tried to maintain impartiality in legal matters throughout their history. This case will add to the list of cases that are critically intertwined with politics.

Trump selected three of the nine present members of the court, establishing a conservative majority of six to three in the court. Over the past three years, the court has reversed rulings on abortion and affirmative action. Clarence Thomas, a supreme court justice, has received negative feedback in the past year. This is due to his reception of presents and holidays from billionaires, and because of his wife, Ginni Thomas' involvement in conservative activism.

Another appeal by Trump is pending the court's ruling, which will determine whether he can avoid being prosecuted for any charges resulting from his criminal trial in Washington DC for his role in the January 6 insurrection. The decision on this matter is yet to be made.

The Colorado court's ruling has been portrayed by Republicans as a move by the Democrats to take a swipe at Trump. Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican who's running for presidency, has promised to step back from the Colorado Republican primary. He's urging other candidates to do the same to show their support towards Trump. Ramaswamy claims that if they don't, it could be seen as a silent agreement to this unconstitutional action which could cause harm to America.

According to a statement by Elise Stefanik, a prominent Republican representative from New York, the Democrats are trying to remove President Trump from the ballot unlawfully because they fear he will win on November 5th, 2024.

The ruling in Colorado may prompt an in-depth inquiry into Trump's role in the January 6th assault, even if it is not upheld. Trump claims that the individuals who were arrested and sentenced, including over 1,000 individuals, are political prisoners. He also continues to assert that the election was stolen in 2020, which was the motivation behind the attack on January 6th.

On Tuesday night, Trump wrote on Truth Social, "Interference in the election!"
