According to his campaign, former President Donald Trump is unharmed after gunfire occurred "close to him" during an event near his golf club in Florida on Sunday.

According to law enforcement officials who spoke to CBS News, Secret Service agents observed a man aiming a rifle at the golf course where Trump was believed to be at that moment.

Authorities discharged their weapons several times at the individual, who attempted to flee. According to reports, the suspect is now in custody, and a firearm has been secured.

In a message sent to his supporters, Trump mentioned that he was "doing fine and feeling secure."

"I won’t let anything stop me," he stated. "I refuse to give up!"

The event occurred nearly two months after a shooter tried to kill Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, grazing his ear with a bullet.

The Secret Service announced on X that they are looking into a "protective incident" concerning Trump that occurred just before 2:00 PM EST (7:00 PM BST) on Sunday.

The White House announced that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been informed about the situation that allegedly occurred at the Trump International Golf Course, "where former President Trump was playing golf."

The White House stated, "They feel a sense of relief knowing that he is secure. Our team will keep them informed with regular updates."

Harris shared on X that she had been informed about the situation and felt relieved that Trump was safe. She stated, "There is no room for violence in America."

The BBC has reached out to the US Secret Service, the West Palm Beach Sheriff's Office, and the Trump campaign for additional information.

On July 13, while speaking to a crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump was wounded when a shooter named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at him with an AR-15-style rifle from the top of a nearby structure.

The incident resulted in the death of one person in the audience, while a 20-year-old named Crooks was shot and killed on-site by a sniper from the Secret Service.

The Secret Service came under heavy criticism for allowing the shooter from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, to attack the former president.

The head of the agency, Kimberly Cheatle, stepped down just two weeks after the event.
