Renowned celebrity hairstylist and This Morning regular Trevor Sorbie has passed away at the age of 76.
The news was announced in an Instagram update from his team on Friday, November 8. This comes after he mentioned that doctors had informed him he only had a few weeks to live and might not reach Christmas.
The renowned hair stylist, 76, has worked with a variety of famous individuals, such as Dame Helen Mirren, Kylie Minogue, George Harrison and Paul McCartney from The Beatles, Robbie Williams, Bryan Ferry, and Lorraine Kelly.
Last month, Sorbie announced that he has been diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer that has spread to his liver.
When informed that chemotherapy might extend his life by another month, the hairdresser refused, stating in an interview with The Times, "I can’t endure any more of that toxic treatment."
With deep sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved founder, Trevor Sorbie MBE," stated a message from his hair salon.
Trevor departed this life surrounded by his family and his cherished dog. His life was a remarkable blend of extraordinary creativity and generosity, leaving a lasting impact not just in the hairdressing community, but also in many other areas.
"Trevor's journey began with The Wedge 50 years ago and continued with the opening of our first salon in 1979. His innovative vision established new benchmarks and continues to motivate countless others. As we celebrate 45 years of Trevor Sorbie salons, we are committed to honoring the passion, skill, and commitment that he represented."
It went on to say, “Trevor frequently encouraged us to 'be daring, stand out, but always maintain good taste.' His principles of kindness, compassion, and high standards still lead us today. He took great pride in our group and had strong faith in our dedication to uphold his legacy.”
In accordance with his wishes, Sorbie will not have a funeral.
"Instead of sending flowers, we encourage you to contribute to four charities that were meaningful to him: Marie Curie, Cancer Research UK, Rowans Hospice, and My New Hair," his team stated.
Next year, we intend to honor his incredible life and achievements with a special event, and we will provide further details when the time is right.
The celebrated stylist also established a charity called My New Hair, aimed at offering guidance and support to a nationwide network of independent salons and stylists that offer wig styling services for individuals dealing with cancer and medical-related hair loss.
In his most recent interview, Sorbie mentioned that he was informed he might not survive until Christmas.
"When I inquired with a nurse about whether I'd still be around for Christmas, she responded, 'We can't say for sure, Trevor.' That really frustrated me. Sure, I have cancer affecting my body, but my mind is still clear," he explained. "I see my brain as my driving force, and I'll decide when it's time for me to go."
Even though he hasn't undergone any more chemotherapy, he's still receiving steroid injections to help alleviate pain and inflammation. Unfortunately, this has led to severe insomnia for him.
