Celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sorbie dies aged 75

Famous hair stylist Trevor Sorbie, known for popularizing the wedge haircut, has passed away at the age of 75.

In October, the acclaimed Scottish stylist disclosed that he only had a few weeks left to live due to the spread of his bowel cancer to his liver.

Over the years, he has worked on the hair of many celebrities, including Dame Helen Mirren and the Beach Boys.

He also established a nonprofit organization that provides guidance to patients and NHS personnel on wig styling, managing hair loss, and encouraging hair regrowth post-treatment.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved founder, Trevor Sorbie MBE," stated a post on the Instagram page of his hair salon.

Trevor departed this world quietly, surrounded by his family and his cherished dog.

"Trevor's path, characterized by exceptional creativity and generosity, has made a lasting impact in the hairdressing industry and far beyond."

Sorbie, originally from Paisley in Renfrewshire, shared on ITV's This Morning last month that he was first diagnosed with bowel cancer after a visit to the hospital due to significant blood loss one night.

The stylist shared that the cancer had advanced to his liver, and he had to have a lengthy six-and-a-half-hour surgery to remove parts of it. Unfortunately, his surgeon has decided against further operations due to its proximity to a major blood vessel.

Sorbie launched his inaugural salon in 1979 in Covent Garden, London. His business subsequently expanded, leading to the establishment of additional salons in Brighton, Bristol, Hampstead, Manchester, and Richmond.

His team mentioned in the statement that Sorbie's "vision established new benchmarks and continues to motivate future generations."

"As we celebrate 45 years of Trevor Sorbie salons, we continue to honor the enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment that he represented."

Trevor frequently encouraged us to "be fearless, stand out, but always maintain a sense of good style." His principles of compassion, attention, and high standards continue to inspire us.

He shared great pride in our group and faith in our dedication to continuing his legacy.

Throughout his career, the stylist founded the charity My New Hair to offer guidance and support for a nationwide network of independent salons and professionals who assist individuals dealing with cancer and medical hair loss through wig-styling services.

His team announced that they would respect Sorbie's desire not to have a funeral. Instead of sending floral arrangements, they encouraged people to contribute to four charities that were important to him: Marie Curie, Cancer Research UK, Rowans Hospice, and My New Hair.

Next year, a unique event will be held to honor and recognize his incredible life and the impact he made.

Sorbie received an MBE in 2004.

He was a four-time winner of the British Hairdresser of the Year award and played a significant role in revolutionizing the hairdressing industry with innovative styles like the scrunch and the wolf cut.

He also launched a well-known haircare line that bore his name.

One of the people honoring Sorbie was TV host Lizzie Cundy, who expressed that she was "completely devastated" by the news.

She referred to him as a "true gentleman and a lot of fun" while reminiscing about the many shows they had filmed together throughout the years.

"I appreciate all the wonderful memories and laughter. My heart and prayers go out to Trevor's family during this difficult period. Rest easy, dear Trevor," she shared in a message on X.
