Transfer deadline day live updates: Latest on Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and more

Transfer deadline day

Wrexham have made some important acquisitions to enhance their chances of achieving promotion. These include Luke Bolton, a winger from Salford City, and Jack Marriott, a forward from Fleetwood Town.

A 24-year-old individual from Bolton has agreed to a deal that will last until June 2026. Additionally, a 29-year-old named Marriott has also joined the team and will be staying until 2025.

The club has made its initial transfer market moves in 2024 with the deadline day deals. These deals are the first since converting Luke McNicholas' loan from Sligo Rovers into a permanent one. Furthermore, Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee have agreed to new long-term contracts on New Year's Day.

Lee and Bolton were teammates during their time together on loan at Luton Town. Bolton kicked off his career at Manchester City before switching over to Salford in 2022. This season, he's had 20 appearances in the league, one of which was last week's 1-1 tie against Bradford City where the Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson, was spotted in the stands doing some scouting.

On that occasion, the ex-England Under-20 player took up the position of a flank player, the same role he has played for a majority of his career.

It is predicted that Wrexham will use Bolton in the position of wing-back, as he is a quick player who could enhance the team's attacking strategy. During the 2019-20 season, he played as a full-back on loan at Luton.

Meanwhile, Marriott is going to strengthen their offense, which hasn't been performing at its best in recent seasons, especially when playing in away games.

Paul Mullin has scored ten goals in 18 games even though he missed the beginning of the season due to a punctured lung. However, Sam Dalby has not yet managed to score in the league, and Ollie Palmer (who has scored five goals in 15 games) and Steven Fletcher (who has scored six goals in just three starts) both had to take long breaks due to injuries.

Marriott, who was born in Beverley and is 29 years old, previously won the League One golden boot while playing for Peterborough United. He has now joined the team from Fleetwood, who currently sit at the bottom of the league above. Marriott has scored five goals in 20 games, making him the top scorer for his new club.

Wrexham still wants to make another acquisition and it seems midfielder Jamie Lindsay from Rotherham United has caught their attention. The 28-year-old's contract will expire during the summer.

Should Wrexham decide to make additional signings after their initial double deal, it is imperative that they prevent a repeat of the last-minute chaos of the previous transfer period. Last time, the team lost out on the £500,000 signing of Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town because there were issues with the paperwork submitted too late.
