Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Ipswich Town: Premier League result as Ipswich claim first top-flight win since 2002
Ipswich Secures First Victory of the Season Against Spurs
Ipswich Town claimed their first victory in the Premier League since 2002, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in North London on Sunday.
Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap scored for the away team, helping them rise above the relegation zone with this impressive win.
Both teams created opportunities in the opening moments. Brennan Johnson failed to convert from a near position, while Dominic Solanke had his attempt blocked. Meanwhile, Cameron Burgess hit the crossbar with a header.
Just after the 30-minute mark, Szmodics gave Ipswich the lead for the sixth time this season by skillfully scoring with an overhead kick, capitalizing on Spurs' inability to clear Jens-Lys Cajust's cross.
In pursuit of their first victory since moving back up to the top division, Ipswich extended their advantage when Liam Delap tapped the ball in from close range after a mishap between Guglielmo Vicario and Radu Dragusin.
Spurs believed they had equalized early in the second half when Solanke scored from a short distance, but VAR disallowed the goal due to a handball.
The home team scored their first goal when Rodrigo Bentancur powered in a header from a corner taken by Pedro Porro. This cut the deficit in half and left Ange Postecoglou’s team with just over 20 minutes to level the match.
However, they were unable to locate it as the visiting team managed to secure an important three points, leaving Spurs with their fifth loss of the season.
