The Hoddle of Coffee: Tottenham Hotspur news and links for Tuesday, December 10
Good morning and thank you for joining us at Fitzie's Wrapped!
Last week, I went off about how absurd Spotify and its Wrapped feature are. Today, I'm putting together my own version.
In my past Year in Review posts, I enjoyed showcasing the albums I purchased and the live shows I went to. This year, it’s a bit more challenging since I didn't buy as many albums. However, there were still some standout moments. Plus, I was fortunate to have some great experiences at the concerts I attended.
Fitzie's top pick: Haim's album, Women in Music Part III, on vibrant yellow vinyl.
This album has quickly become one of my favorites in recent years, and I've listened to the standard black vinyl countless times. However, tracking down different versions has proven to be quite challenging. That's why I was thrilled to discover this at Reckless Records.
I discovered some awesome Japanese press editions of music from Queen, Dexter Gordon, and Bill Evans. I think I may have gotten a German pressing of The Beatles' Revolver, but I'm not sure if that was this year or the previous one.
Fitzie's top concert experience: The Rolling Stones in Denver, Colorado.
I've been looking forward to seeing The Rolling Stones for years. Back in 2019, I purchased tickets as a gift for my dad, but then Covid hit, and the band never managed to reschedule their concert at the venue I had chosen, which was Petco Park in San Diego.
This year, my dad and I attended the concert, nearly five years since our last visit. It was an incredible experience! The Rolling Stones still deliver an outstanding performance and outshine even much younger artists. I especially enjoyed Ronnie Wood’s part in the show.
I was really excited to see Keith Richards get to perform his own three-song set in the middle of the show while Mick took a break backstage. After that, it was hit after hit, starting with "Sympathy For the Devil." It's astonishing how many incredible songs they have in their catalog.
Other shows I really liked were Jack White and Vampire Weekend.
Fitzie's most disliked concert: The Decemberists in Washington, D.C.
Perhaps it's just that I'm not a fan? I decided to check out The Decemberists after catching a couple of their latest songs on the radio. I really liked "Burial Ground" and was glad they played it at the concert. However, the rest of the performance felt a bit dull, and their 16-minute track "Joan In The Garden" didn’t come across well in a live setting.
The band that gets the most plays is likely The Grateful Dead.
Is that unexpected?
Fitzie's go-to radio station: 88.5M The SoCal Sound.
Absolutely! It has been my top pick since 2018. I'm a bit bummed that my favorite DJ moved to a station in Chicago, but the tunes continue to play.
Latest must-listen album: Songs of a Lost World, by The Cure.
A few weeks back, I featured a track from their new album as my Track of the Day. It’s fantastic and showcases The Cure at their finest.
Hot new track: Heading to a spot close to you soon.
Fitzie’s song of the day: "Lost Changes" by Beth Gibbons
