Spurs in talks with 'prospective investors' - Levy
and has overseen a period of significant growth and development for the club. Daniel Levy has held the position of Chairman of Tottenham since 2001, and during his tenure, the club has undergone substantial expansion and progress.
According to the Chairman of Tottenham, Daniel Levy, the team is currently discussing with possible investors after incurring losses amounting to £86.8 million in their financial statements for the year 2022-23.
The overall income rose by 24%, a significant increase compared to the previous year, and reached an impressive sum of £549.6m. Additionally, the revenue generated from matchday events climbed to a new high of £117.6m.
However, they have recorded a decline in profits for the fourth consecutive year after incurring a deficit of £50.1 million in 2022.
Levy emphasized the importance of utilizing our future possibilities to the fullest.
"He stated that the club needs a considerable boost in its equity base in order to keep investing in the teams and executing upcoming capital projects."
The group in charge and their consultants, Rothschild & Co, are currently talking to possible investors. If any suggested plan to invest is made, it will need approval from the club's owners.
According to the regulations set forth by the Premier League regarding profit and sustainability (PSR), teams are only allowed to lose up to £105million within three years, or £35million per individual season, before experiencing consequences.
In the past three years, Tottenham has experienced losses that go beyond the set limit, reaching a total of £220.7m. However, due to an annual depreciation charge of £72m that pertains to their stadium and related amenities, they are not in danger of violating the PSR regulations.
Both Everton and Nottingham Forest have received sanctions in the current season for violating PSR regulations. In addition, Championship team Leicester City has been accused by the Premier League of violating spending regulations during their previous three seasons in the top-tier competition.
Levy stated that the club is adhering to all the regulations and is in favor of improving PSR to maintain a healthy level of competition and sustainability in the Premier League.
We have been functioning with financial sustainability and are now able to maximize the actual value of our important possessions, such as the exceptional amenities at our mixed-use arena and our training site.
We anticipate an increase in commercial earnings from hosting events for other entities, but unfortunately, this won't make up for the absence of European football in the current season.
Tottenham managed to secure their position in the Champions League last season, after finishing in fourth place in 2021-22. They made it to the last 16, which resulted in them receiving a prize money of £56.2m from Uefa. The amount is significantly larger compared to the previous year's earnings, where they only received £10.2m after their elimination from the Europa Conference League in the group stage.
They ended up in the eighth position in the Premier League during the 2022-23 season and are not taking part in any European competitions this season.
In the financial report of Tottenham for the year 2022-23, it was revealed that their operational expenses had gone up by 21% from £403.4m to £487.9m. This hike can be attributed to the rise in the costs associated with the first-team as well as the hosting of numerous events, besides football, like boxing, music concerts, and NFL fixtures.
The team's payroll increased by 20% to £251m due to a significant and ongoing investment in the playing staff. Levy's salary also saw a rise from £3.2m to £3.5m, and he earned a bonus of £3m.
During March, Tottenham made public their decision to raise season ticket prices by 6% for the 2024-2025 season. The cheapest adult season ticket will now cost £856, compared to the £807 previous season price. They also plan to discontinue giving discounts to new senior season ticket holders aged 65 and above starting in 2025-2026.
The trust of Tottenham Hotspur supporters has stated that this decision is not acceptable and cannot be explained.
Tottenham has justified the rise in the cost of season tickets by explaining that they have only increased the prices by 1.5% in the last five years and there has been a substantial surge in match day expenditures.
The reports do not indicate how expensive it was to fire supervisor Antonio Conte. Conte was fired from the club in March 2023, and Ange Postecoglou was named his full-time substitute on 6 June, following interim periods from Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason.
The team known as Spurs had to say goodbye to their star player Harry Kane, who was transferred to Bayern Munich for the grand sum of 100 million euros - which is equivalent to £86.4m - in August. However, since this transaction took place beyond the relevant financial timeframe, it won't be included in the accounts until the year 2023-2024.
Also, the expenses incurred on acquiring new players such as James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Dejan Kulusevski, Micky van de Ven, and Brennan Johnson will be reflected in the financial statements of the following year.
