Harry Kane Tottenham return: Striker gets standing ovation in Bayern friendly

Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane received a round of applause from his old team Tottenham as the German club defeated Spurs 3-2 in a pre-season exhibition match.

Kane made a late appearance as a substitute during his first return to the London club he left to join Bayern last summer in a transfer deal worth £86.4m plus additional payments.

The captain of the English team received applause both as he entered the field and during a solo victory lap at the conclusion of the match.

Kane mentioned that he likely shouldn't have been on the field since he had just started training on Friday after playing in the Euro 2024 final for England. However, he explained that he knew he would only play for 10 minutes and felt good about it.

He mentioned: "Everything happened really quickly last year, so we didn't get the opportunity to bid farewell, but it was a wonderful way to express gratitude to all of them.

The welcome I received was fantastic and it felt good to be embraced by the fans on the field afterwards. I am grateful to all the Tottenham supporters who have stood by me throughout my career. Their support has been truly remarkable.

"I'm grateful for the chance to meet them and reconnect with them once more."

Kane and Eric Dier, who decided to move from Tottenham to Bayern in January, were also presented with presents by Spurs before the game started as a thank you for their contributions to the team.

Tottenham unveiled new players Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, and Lucas Bergvall to their supporters prior to the start of the game.

Once the game started, Dejan Kulusevski scored the first goal for Spurs. However, Bayern Munich turned the game around with goals from Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry, and Thomas Muller, leading them to a 3-1 victory.

Kulusevski scored another goal to make the score closer, but the team from the Bundesliga, led by Vincent Kompany, managed to maintain their lead and win the game.

After Solanke left, Bournemouth achieved a 3-2 victory over Girona.

The Cherries took the lead with a penalty from Justin Kluivert, but Christian Stuani and Joel Roca turned the game around to put the Spanish club in front 2-1.

Luis Sinisterra scored a goal to tie the game for Bournemouth, and then Daniel Jebbison secured the victory with a goal from close range.

Aston Villa finished their pre-season games with a 2-0 loss against Borussia Dortmund in front of a crowd of 81,365.

Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and England defender Ezri Konsa both made their comeback for Villa after representing their countries at the Copa America and Euro 2024, respectively.

Konsa committed a foul on Karim Adeyemi, resulting in a penalty kick. Emre Can converted the penalty to put the team that lost in last season's Champions League final in the lead. They then scored again soon after with a goal from Julian Brandt.

Strikers Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran were not included in the team for Aston Villa's first Premier League match against West Ham on Saturday, August 17th.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is facing charges from the Football Association for breaking betting rules, made his debut for West Ham in a pre-season match against Celta Vigo. West Ham emerged victorious in a penalty shootout after the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Jarrod Bowen scored the first goal for West Ham before Mihailo scored to equal the game for the Spanish team.

Paqueta scored a goal to give the home team the lead, but Pablo Duran equalized for Celta Vigo.

New players Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville joined the West Ham team in the second half of the game. Despite a low attendance at London Stadium due to fans boycotting over changes to ticket prices for Under-21s and pensioners, West Ham managed to win on penalties.

Harvey Barnes scored a goal for Newcastle United to help them win 1-0 against Brest. In another match, Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton scored a goal to equalize the game against Roma, who had taken the lead thanks to Lorenzo Pellegrini. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Wolves lost 1-0 to Rayo Vallecano, while Leicester City suffered a 3-0 defeat at Lens in France.

Brighton has won all four of their pre-season games after defeating Villarreal 4-0.

Joao Pedro scored first for the Seagulls, followed by goals from Danny Welbeck and Yankuba Minteh.

Brighton, under the new management of Fabian Hurzeler, scored their fourth goal of the match when Welbeck scored his second with a penalty kick towards the end of the game. The team made this impressive achievement after Roberto de Zerbi left the club earlier in the summer.

Fulham's latest addition, Emile Smith Rowe, made his debut by scoring a goal from a difficult angle as his team defeated Hoffenheim 2-0 in Germany. Smith Rowe recently transferred from Arsenal to join the Cottagers.

Adama Traore scored another goal for Fulham, who will kick off their Premier League season with a match against Manchester United on Friday, August 16th.
