Celebrities like Jeff Goldblum, Stephen Merchant, Lashana Lynch, Helena Bonham Carter, and Katherine Ryan were present to present awards at the event. This occasion was emceed by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan.

The top award of the night was won by Top Boy, a drama series on Netflix, for Best Drama Series. Additionally, actor Jasmine Jobson received the Best Supporting Actress award.

Timothy Spall was bestowed the Best Actor award for his portrayal in the BBC One drama, The Sixth Commandment, which was influenced by the homicide of a retired schoolteacher. The production also secured the Best Limited Drama accolade. During his acceptance speech, Spall conceded "It has always been my desire to receive one of these - it's truly delightful to possess one."

Sarah Lancashire was awarded the Best Actress award for her brilliant performance in the last installment of the acclaimed BBC series Happy Valley. Furthermore, the show was also recognized with the prestigious "P&O Cruises memorable moment" trophy for featuring an unforgettable final showdown between two long-term enemies, policewoman Catherine Cawood (portrayed by Lancashire herself), and notorious serial killer Tommy Lee Royce (played by James Norton).

The awards ceremony recognized outstanding comedic performances in various categories. The BBC sitcoms Black Ops, Juice, and Such Brave Girls all received accolades for their work in Female Performance in a Comedy Series, Male Performance in a Comedy Series, and Scripted Comedy. These shows provided some hilarious and fresh humor that was well worth the recognition they received.

There were other impressive achievements at the awards ceremony. For instance, Squid Game: The Challenge won the prize for Best Reality, Strictly Come Dancing was named the Best Entertainment Programme, and Joe Lycett was recognized as having the Best Entertainment Performance. Lycett, who presents the comedy show Late Night Lycett on Channel 4, received his award in Queen Elizabeth attire as a result of losing a bet.

Last year's two most popular US series - Succession and The Crown - didn't fare well in terms of love. Despite their final seasons, they barely bagged any awards. Succession only got one award, with Matthew Macfadyen winning the Best Supporting Actor. Unfortunately, he couldn't be there to receive it himself. The Crown, on the other hand, didn't win anything, despite having four nominations.

The renowned drama series of 2024, ITV's Mr Bates vs the Post Office, which was based on the Horizon Scandal and caused a huge outcry among the public and political authorities when it first aired in January, was also absent from the list of nominees. Nonetheless, there was a logical reason for this exclusion. The actress Eleanor Tomlinson, who presented the nominees for Best Drama Series during the Bafta 2024 ceremony, clarified that Mr Bates was not included in the nominations due to a technicality. Specifically, the series was aired after the cut-off date for this year's awards and will be eligible for consideration in the next Bafta event.

The event acknowledged the lengthy professions of two individuals in the field of broadcasting. Baroness Floella Benjamin, known for her work as a children's television presenter and politician, received the esteemed Bafta Fellowship award. Meanwhile, Lorraine Kelly, who hosts a program on ITV during the day, was presented with a Special Bafta honor.

Kelly was introduced by the Scottish actor and Succession star, Brian Cox, who shared that his sister was a big admirer of Kelly. Cox explained that when he asked his sister about what she loved so much about Kelly, she simply responded by saying "she's authentic".

During her address, Kelly encouraged the UK television sector to remain welcoming to new generations of skillful individuals hailing from less privileged socioeconomic backgrounds.

During her speech, Baroness Benjamin expressed her joy over her numerous contributions in television and politics. She emphasized her main objective which is to ensure that broadcasters and organizations prioritize diversity and inclusion in all their endeavors for the past 50 years.

In other places, people expressed their respect and admiration for various television performers who passed away during the previous year. These icons include Bernard Hill, who starred in Boys from the Blackstuff, Haydn Gwynne from Drop the Dead Donkey, and Matthew Perry from the sitcom Friends.
