Tommy Robinson arrested over suspected immigration offence in Canada

Extreme right-wing activist Tommy Robinson has been taken into custody in Canada on suspicion of violating immigration laws.

Robinson, also known by his real name Stephen Yaxley Lennon, was detained on Monday but later released. He was instructed to remain in the country and surrender his passport, according to him.

Video shared on the internet showed him being placed in handcuffs and escorted to the rear of a parked vehicle.

A man who seemed to be a civilian police officer informed him that he was being held because of an unresolved immigration warrant.

The 41-year-old posted on X, previously known as Twitter: "I don't understand any of this, I am currently being held in Calgary and not allowed to leave the city. These circumstances are preventing me from continuing my tour of Canada and meeting with guests for my podcasts."
