Many followers of the far-right advocate Tommy Robinson gathered in Trafalgar Square in downtown London following a protest.

He said that the event was the largest patriotic gathering in the history of the UK.

A demonstration against racism organized by Stand Up To Racism and former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's Peace & Justice Project occurred in London as well.

The Metropolitan Police stated that they were conducting a significant operation to maintain order and prevent any potential disruptions during the two protests.

In the city, there was an event celebrating Trans Pride.

Surrounded by a large number of England and Union Jack flags, followers of Tommy Robinson listened to talks criticizing immigration and advocating for "patriotism".

He was met with a resounding applause in Trafalgar Square when he asked the audience how many had voted for Reform in the recent election.

He shared that he had invited Nigel Farage to talk at the protest, but mentioned that the Reform leader had informed him he was unable to attend.

During the protest against racism, people held signs that said "stop racism, stop hate" and shouted "we refuse to stay quiet."

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that five individuals were taken into custody.

Two males were taken into custody on suspicion of assault causing serious bodily harm after a participant in the Stand Up To Racism protest was attacked in Victoria Embankment Gardens, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The person who was hurt got a head injury and the officers helped them by giving them first aid.

Someone from the crowd was taken into custody for reportedly attacking a staff member at Trans Pride. Another individual was also arrested for allegedly assaulting a first responder and committing a racially motivated public disturbance after kicking a police officer.

A man was taken into custody on suspicion of causing damage and committing a racially motivated offense after reportedly tearing down a Palestinian flag and making a derogatory comment based on race.

The Metropolitan Police have not confirmed if the five individuals taken into custody were involved in the current demonstrations.

Before the protests began, the police put up barriers on Whitehall and stationed mobile units on side streets near Westminster.

There were 1,000 police officers working, and Scotland Yard used their authority under the Public Order Act to set strict rules about when and where the protests could take place. The Metropolitan Police said that officers would continue to be on duty even after the marches were over.

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, who is leading the operation this weekend, stated that the police will take swift action to address any protesters who violate the conditions.

He stated that the main focus is on maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of those who are participating in lawful protests.

Tommy Robinson, also known as Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is going to court on Monday for allegedly violating the terms of a libel case he lost last year by discussing it online.
