Former England player Tom Voyce sadly reported dead by police following Storm Darragh | Rugbydump
Former England rugby player Tom Voyce has tragically died after his car was carried off by floods in Northumberland following Storm Darragh.
A police spokesperson stated, "It is thought that during his attempts to flee, he was carried away and sadly lost his life."
Ch Supt Helena Barron expressed, “This is a deeply heartbreaking event, and our hearts go out to Tom’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
“We are still actively searching, but we are facing significant difficulties in our efforts to find Tom.”
"This is due to the circumstances, such as the river's current flow and the water level being much higher because of the intense rainfall we had over the weekend."
Northumbria Police reported that they were informed on Sunday that the ex-rugby player had not come back home after spending Saturday evening with friends. It is claimed that he tried to drive his car across Abberwick Ford, but it was swept away by the current of the River Aln, roughly 3 miles (5km) from Alnwick.
At the age of 43, he earned nine appearances for the England national team throughout his career. In club rugby, he had an impressive journey with teams like London Wasps, Bath, and Gloucester.
