Former England rugby player Tom Voyce has been reported missing in the vicinity of Alnwick, as stated by Northumbria Police on Tuesday. Authorities are concerned that he may have passed away following the discovery of his vehicle in a river.
Authorities reported that they got a call on Sunday about a 43-year-old who had not come back home after spending the night out with friends.
A representative from the police stated: "Currently, we believe Tom tried to drive his car across Abberwick Ford, and the vehicle was then swept away by the river's flow."
The police have recovered his vehicle, but unfortunately, Tom is still missing.
It is thought that during his efforts to flee, he was carried away and sadly lost his life.
Voyce, who hails from Cornwall, started his career in professional rugby with Bath but found his greatest success while playing for Wasps, a team located in London.
A highly skilled try scorer playing as a wing or fullback, Voyce was a key member of the dominant Wasps squad that achieved a double victory in the Premiership and European Cup in 2004. He contributed to their success in both competitions a second time, but unfortunately, he was unable to participate in their third European final win due to an injury.
He earned nine appearances for the England national team from 2001 to 2006 and hung up his boots in 2013.
Chief Superintendent Helena Barron of Northumbria Police remarked, "This is a deeply sorrowful event, and our condolences are with Tom's family and friends during this difficult time."
"Our team is still providing assistance to his family, and we kindly request that their privacy be honored."
In-depth searches have been underway since worries about Tom were brought up, including sending in specialized teams to look for him.
England rugby extended its condolences to the family and friends of Voyce.
"England Rugby expressed their support on X, saying that their thoughts and prayers are with Tom Voyce's family and friends during this very difficult time."
