Tom Hanks breaks down 'tough' BTS details on iconic roles from Forrest Gump to Big
During the event, Tom discussed the behind-the-scenes of recording the famous scene where he danced on the giant piano in the movie BIG from 1988. Additionally, he delighted the entire audience by performing the rap from the film, which had everyone tapping their toes.
I have a story to share with you. The late director Penny Marshall once asked, "Are you prepared to jump on the piano?" May she rest in peace.
Tom kept talking and explained that the sound you heard was caused by you accidentally stepping on the piano keys. Also, the dance sequence we filmed was very difficult and tiring, lasting for a minute and a half each time. We had to do it repeatedly throughout the afternoon, which was very exhausting. The most challenging part was that it seemed never-ending.
Did Tom Hanks Win An Oscar?
Tom Hanks is a widely acclaimed and prolific actor, with a long list of impressive achievements. Rather than questioning whether he has won an Oscar, it's more apt to ask how many he has won, given his incredible success. In fact, Hanks has been honored with two Academy Awards for his standout performances in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, both of which he earned over two consecutive years in 1994 and 1995. He has also been nominated for several other notable films, including Saving Private Ryan, Big, Cast Away, and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Beyond his Oscar accolades, Hanks has received numerous other prestigious awards, such as seven Emmy awards and five Golden Globes, among them the highly respected Cecil B. DeMille Award.
The pants I wore were too tight, and it was evident on the internet when I spread my legs. This happened because my package was firmly wedged. We initially intended to jump around the piano, but it unexpectedly turned into a delightful experience.
After that, Tom proceeded to give audience members a performance of his popular rap song "Shimmy Shimmy Cocoa Pop" as a farewell gesture.
Tom admits that he cannot take credit for the scene appearing in the movie. As a proud father of four, he shared that the process of creating that scene was a collaborative effort during rehearsals with Billie. They were attempting to showcase the contrast between their sizes while convincing Billie's character that Tom's character was really himself. They experimented with various versions that referenced people from La La Land, but none were successful. It was not until Tom's son, Colin, who is both an actor and director, returned from a summer camp called Sports Plus and taught them the chant that the scene came together.
"I arrived on the set and proposed an idea: what if we started with this approach and got his input? That way we can prove that it works. Penny was enthusiastic and responded with 'Let's give it a try!'"
Tom was advertising his book 'Tom Hanks, The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece' which was a bestseller in the Sunday Times.
