Tom Daley will be swinging the flag pole for Team GB at the Olympic opening ceremony

Tom Daley

Tom Daley, the diver who won a gold medal and is one of our favorite openly LGBTQ athletes, will carry the flag for Team GB at the start of the Olympic games in Paris this year!

In a recent chat with The Guardian, Daley talked about the responsibility of carrying the flag.

"Being selected as the flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the Olympics is a great privilege," Daley expressed. Who can blame him for feeling thrilled? Just picture entering a crowded stadium with the knowledge that you are not only representing your nation, but also the worldwide LGBTQ+ community!

Daley's revelation in 2013 was a big moment, and since that time, he has been a vocal supporter for LGBTQ+ rights, using his influence to motivate and encourage others.

In 2017, Daley and Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black tied the knot and soon after became parents. They now have two lovely children.

And let's not overlook Daley's time of popularity with his creative and unique clothing line, because obviously, we still support and admire it.

As we prepare for the Summer Olympics, watching Tom Daley proudly carrying the flag will be a memorable moment! Let the games commence, and may they be just as motivating as the individual guiding Team GB into the limelight!

The Paris 2024 Olympics begin with the opening ceremony available to watch on Peacock and NBC starting on Friday, July 26 at 10:30am PT/1:30pm ET.
