UFC 295: Tom Aspinall knocks out Sergei Pavlovich to win interim heavyweight title at Madison Square Garden
Tom Aspinall claimed the interim UFC heavyweight championship by stopping Sergei Pavlovich in round one of their bout held in New York.
The athlete, who is currently 30 years old, executed two fast combos consisting of left and right punches to completely take down his opponent from Russia in just 69 seconds. This epic feat took place in front of a packed audience at Madison Square Garden.
He is now just the third individual from Britain to hold a title in the UFC, following after Michael Bisping (middleweight) and Leon Edwards (welterweight).
The temporary championship match was added to the event at a later time because Jon Jones had a muscle tear while training at the end of last month. Jones was required to have surgery, and it was decided that he couldn't defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at the Garden.

Aspinall filled in at short notice, with only 17 days to prepare. Pavlovich, who was already on standby as the substitute for the main fighter, was not hesitant to face Aspinall. However, after succumbing to yet another loss, Pavlovich, who is known for his ability to knock out his opponents, will have to re-evaluate his eligibility for the championship title.
After the fight, Aspinall had the same belief. He fell down on the canvas crying and delivered a heartfelt speech to the audience.
He declared that the person from the United Kingdom is the reigning champion of the world and he himself is now the top player in the world.
Jones could possibly disagree with the decree, but luckily for him, Aspinall is considering him as his next opponent.
"I request for the opportunity to have the fight of a lifetime," he pleaded. "Grant me the chance to fight for my reputation and leave a lasting legacy."
According to Dana White, the CEO of UFC, it is likely that Jones will have to fight against Miocic instead of fulfilling Aspinall's desires.
According to White, that is the combat they desire, that is the combat that is logical, and that is the combat that ought to take place.
If Jones remains healthy, the competition might take place in the upcoming summer. However, in case any of the players withdraws from the contest, Aspinall will be ready to establish his heavyweight championship record even more.
