On Sunday, he took pictures in Lower Manhattan with fans and lookalikes, some of whom were dressed as characters from his films, Wonka and Dune.

However, just as the aspiring Chalamet look-alikes were starting to vie for attention on the red carpet in Washington Square Park, New York, the police instructed the crowd to break it up.

The organizers faced a penalty of $500 (£385) for hosting a "costume contest without permission," and at least one individual was escorted away in handcuffs.

The group gathered again at a nearby playground, where over a dozen participants competed for the audience's favor from a makeshift stage.

Once the group was narrowed down to just four finalists, the remaining contestants were evaluated on a range of subjects.

They were inquired about their ability in French, their aspirations for improving the world, and their romantic feelings towards Kylie Jenner. It's reported that Chalamet and Jenner are dating.

In the end, 21-year-old Miles Mitchell from Staten Island was named the winner, earning $50 (£38) in prize money. He received this amount in the form of a giant novelty check made out to "Best Tim."

He wore a purple Willy Wonka costume and threw sweets to the audience from a suitcase.

"I'm thrilled, but I also feel a bit overwhelmed," Mitchell expressed. "There were so many impressive look-alikes."
