The Met Office has issued a warning for yellow weather, predicting thunderstorms will arrive in the early morning hours on Monday.

The alert applies to all of Scotland and a number of its surrounding islands.

The storm is expected to arrive at around 2am on Monday and continue until 1pm in the afternoon.

The extreme weather is forecasted to form in the western regions of the UK and then progress towards the north-east later on Sunday night.

The Met Office is reporting that while not every part of the warned area will be impacted, there is a likelihood of organized thunderstorms bringing abundant lightning, intense rainfall, hail, and brief bursts of strong winds.

According to weather experts, heavy rain is expected in some areas, with an estimated 20-40 mm of rainfall. In certain spots, there is a possibility of 40-60 mm of rain falling in just 1-2 hours, along with hailstones as big as 2 cm.

Expect Brief Thunderstorms

The storms should move away from the north-east by Monday afternoon.

A representative from the Met Office mentioned that there might be some disturbances and harm to infrastructure due to thunderstorms on Monday.

Rainfall and unexpected flooding may result in challenging driving situations and the closure of certain roads.

There is a slight possibility that certain areas may become temporarily isolated due to roads being flooded.

When there is flooding or lightning strikes, it is possible that there may be delays and that some train and bus services could be canceled.

There is a small possibility that there may be power outages and other services might be disrupted for certain households and businesses.

This means that there is a possibility that houses and shops might be flooded rapidly, causing harm to structures due to flooding, lightning, hail, or powerful winds.
