Christopher Nolan’s next film will be a star-studded adaptation of Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’ | CNN
Award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan is set to transport viewers to ancient Greece with his upcoming venture.
This week, Universal Pictures revealed that Nolan will be at the helm of a film version of “The Odyssey,” an ancient poem thought to have been composed by Homer around 750 to 650 BCE. The story focuses on Odysseus and his ten-year journey back home following the Trojan War.
According to the studio’s announcement shared on their X page on Monday, Nolan's upcoming film is characterized as "a grand mythic action adventure filmed worldwide with cutting-edge IMAX film technology."
Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson, along with Academy Award winners Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron, are said to be appearing in the movie.
Holland recently discussed joining the project during a recent episode of “The Dish” podcast, where he mentioned that filming hasn't begun yet. He shared that when he met with Nolan to talk about the project, Nolan gave him a “loose” outline of it, but Holland still isn’t fully informed about all the specifics.
The actor from "Spider-Man" also talked about collaborating with his girlfriend Zendaya, making a lighthearted comment that "studios really like it" when they work together since they only need to cover the cost of "one hotel room."
Pattinson, Damon, and Hathaway have all starred in Nolan's movies before, such as "Tenet," "Interstellar," and "Oppenheimer."
Nolan has directed some incredible films like “Inception,” “The Dark Knight,” “Dunkirk,” and his latest project, “Oppenheimer.” This film made a significant impact at last year's Oscars, winning the award for best picture. Besides being a producer on the film, Nolan also earned the Academy Award for best director for his work.
As stated in a recent social media post by Universal, "The Odyssey" will be adapted for IMAX, bringing Homer’s classic tale to the big screen for the very first time. The film is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
