The Last Dinner Party win BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2024
The winner of BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2024 is The Last Dinner Party.
The group from London that plays a blend of indie rock and pop music is made up of Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Aurora Nishevci. They were selected by a committee comprising more than 140 experts and performers from the music industry, among them Olivia Rodrigo, Declan McKenna, Chase & Status, Mahalia, and many others.
In 2023, the five-piece band had an amazing year which included performing at Glastonbury for the first time, going on their first tour in North America, releasing their first ever track 'Nothing Matters', and announcing their own show at London's Roundhouse. They have also received support from Greg James and Jack Saunders from Radio 1 and even recorded a session for Radio 1's Future Artists. The band has big plans for this year as they are eagerly waiting for the release of their debut album 'Prelude to Ecstasy', which is set to come out in February.
The Last Dinner Party is delighted to announce that they have been awarded the 2024 Sound Of Award by BBC Radio 1! They anticipate remarkable developments in the music industry this year, and being a part of it is a true honour. BBC Radio has supported and promoted young artists, including The Last Dinner Party since the beginning of their journey. It's still unbelievable to hear their songs being played on the radio. Every artist who has been nominated or won this award in previous years is truly magnificent, and it's an honour to be among them. The Last Dinner Party is grateful to guitar music for its resilience. Bands have made a comeback!

A unique occasion dubbed as BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2024 Live will be conducted at Maida Vale on Monday 8 January by Radio 1. During the event, musicians on the longlist will showcase their artistry.
The Sound of... competition began in 2003 and has had some big names win, like 50 Cent, Adele, and HAIM. FLO was the winner last year, beating out a longlist of great artists such as Fred again.., Nia Archives, and Cat Burns. The competition has also helped to launch the careers of Stormzy, Lady Gaga, Dizzee Rascal, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and Lewis Capaldi.
