The Last Dinner Party win BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2024
BBC Radio 1 announced that The Last Dinner Party is the champion of the Sound of 2024.
A group of musicians from London, who play indie rock and pop, were selected by a committee of 140 professionals and artists. Some of the notable members of the committee include Olivia Rodrigo, Declan McKenna, Chase & Status, and Mahalia. Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Aurora Nishevci make up the London-based band.
The year 2023 was a really important time for the band of five. They got to play at Glastonbury for the first time, went on their first tour in North America, released the first song they ever made called "Nothing Matters", and announced they would headline a concert at London’s Roundhouse. Throughout their journey, they also received help from Greg James and Jack Saunders of Radio 1, and even recorded a session for Radio 1's Future Artists. This year is bringing lots of excitement for the band because their first album, "Prelude to Ecstasy," is coming out in February and people can't wait.
The Last Dinner Party is thrilled to announce that they have won the prestigious BBC Radio 1 Sound Of Award for 2024! They are looking forward to seeing many great things happening in the music world this year. Being included in this event is a true honor and they are excited to be part of it. BBC Radio has been incredibly supportive of their music from the very beginning, and they are still pleasantly surprised every time they hear one of their songs being played on the radio. It's humbling to be in the same category as so many other talented young artists who have been nominated or have won in past years. They give a big shoutout to guitar music for never dying, and they're proud to be part of the "bands are back" resurgence.
According to Jack Saunders, this year's Sound Of list is quite impressive, and that makes The Last Dinner Party's victory even more satisfying. No other band is resonating with their fans quite like this one. With their incredible music, aesthetic, and determination, they have all the necessary ingredients for success.

On Monday 8 January, BBC Radio 1 is organizing a special occasion named BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2024 Live at Maida Vale. The event will feature artists from the longlist, who will perform their music.
The Sound of... competition was launched back in 2003, and as the years have passed, it has crowned some incredibly talented winners such as 50 Cent, Adele, and HAIM. In the previous year, FLO managed to grab the top prize, beating an impressive list of nominees that included Fred again.., Nia Archives, and Cat Burns. Some of the past champions from the Sound of... competition have gone on to become some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Stormzy, Lady Gaga, Adele, Dizzee Rascal, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and Lewis Capaldi.
