The Last Dinner Party win BBC Radio 1s Sound of 2024 poll
The renowned group The Last Dinner Party has been named the BBC Radio 1 Sound of 2025. This esteemed award was decided upon by a group of industry authorities and noted musicians such as Olivia Rodrigo, Declan McKenna, and Chase & Status. The Last Dinner Party joins other accomplished artists like Adele, Celeste, PinkPantheress, and Sam Smith who have previously received this accolade. FLO was last year's recipient.
The revelation was made by Florence Welch and during an interview with the BBC, she expressed, "To me, the subtleties of femininity tend to go unrecognized in rock music. However, upon witnessing The Last Dinner Party perform in their airy dresses and chiffon materials, all while maintaining their intense and strong presence, I knew that this was the epitome of what I had been searching for."
Regarding their victory, the group expressed: “BBC Radio has been a strong supporter of us and numerous other up-and-coming musicians right from the beginning of our journey, and it always amazes us when we hear one of our tracks being played. All the artists who have been shortlisted or emerged victorious over the years are incredibly formidable, and it's a great privilege to be included among them." They went on to say, "A huge shout-out to guitar music for persisting. Bands are back, and it feels great, baby."
The Last Dinner Party has become the first guitar group to receive the honor in more than ten years, following in the footsteps of HAIM's victory.
BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2024 poll has listed additional performers in their top five rankings. Among these notable acts are Olivia Dean, DJ Peggy Gou, the up-and-coming South African artist Tyla, and Elmiene. The complete roster of nominees also featured Ayra Starr, Caity Baser, CMAT, Kenya Grace, and Sekou.
The Last Dinner Party unveiled their newest single, "Caesar On A TV Screen," from their upcoming debut album called Prelude To Ecstasy. They were honored with the BRIT's Rising Star Award for 2024 and were also named "Rising Stars" by Rolling Stone UK for their 2023 Awards.
