The Last Dinner Party cancel tour due to illness after gig security investigation

The Last Dinner Party

The Last Dinner Party has called off their remaining tour dates in the UK because of an unexpected illness within the band. This comes after some fans experienced "odd" behavior when they showed up for a concert over the weekend.

This follows the announcement from the award-winning band, which has been nominated for the Mercury Prize, expressing their shock and dismay over reports that some fans felt "uncomfortable and disrespected" at their show at The Engine Shed in Lincoln.

Online viewers pointed out that male fans appeared to be treated unfairly, prompting the venue to start looking into its security policies for the event. A number of male attendees reported that they were asked about their familiarity with the band before being allowed inside.

The concert in Lincoln was unexpectedly canceled due to what the band described as a "sudden illness." They've now decided to also cancel upcoming headline performances in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol, and Southampton after receiving medical recommendations.

"The band issued a statement on social media emphasizing the need to put our health first right now. They noted that the decision was made with great sadness."

They also called off a performance in Cardiff on Sunday.

The Last Dinner Party is an all-female indie band that includes lead vocalist Abigail Morris, guitarist Emily Roberts, rhythm guitarist Lizzie Mayland, bassist Georgia Davies, and keyboardist Aurora Nishevci.

"We're heartbroken that we can't spend these evenings with you and that we had to miss the performances in Lincoln and Cardiff," the band expressed on their social media.

We want you to know that you've turned this into the most amazing year of our lives, and we are incredibly grateful for your love and support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

"TLDP exists today thanks to your support, and we hope to continue touring and sharing our music with you for many years to come. However, we need to make some important choices now to ensure our long-term well-being."

After the incident at the Lincoln concert, the band shared a message on their social media, explaining that they were unaware of the security measures in place for the event. They indicated that those measures would not have been put into effect if they had known about them beforehand.

The Engine Shed, claiming to be the biggest live music venue in Lincolnshire, shared a post on their official Instagram account addressing that their entry process did not meet their venue's standards. They highlighted the importance of treating all attendees fairly and ensuring that everyone follows the same entry guidelines.

The statement indicated that the security policy was updated due to certain "incidents" that occurred at one of the band's earlier performances. However, this change led to some guests experiencing "unacceptable treatment" while entering the venue.

The Last Dinner Party's first album, Prelude To Ecstasy, hit the top of the charts right after it came out in February. It later received a nomination for this year's Mercury Prize, and the band won the rising star award at the Brit Awards as well.
