The Last Dinner Party cancel tour dates due to illness after gig security investigation

The Last Dinner Party

The Last Dinner Party has called off multiple tour dates in the UK because of an unexpected illness affecting one of the band members. This decision comes after some fans experienced "unusual" behavior during a concert over the weekend.

This follows the announcement from the Brit Award-winning and Mercury Prize-nominated band, who expressed their shock and disappointment over some fans feeling "uncomfortable and disrespected" at The Engine Shed in Lincoln.

Viewers on social media proposed that male fans experienced discrimination, leading the venue to initiate an inquiry into its security protocols during the event. A number of male attendees reported being asked questions about the band’s music before they were allowed to enter.

The performance in Lincoln was unexpectedly called off due to a "sudden illness" as stated by the band. They have now also decided to cancel upcoming headline concerts in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol, and Southampton "based on medical recommendations."

"We need to put our health first right now," the band expressed in a social media statement, noting that it was a tough decision for them to make.

They also called off a performance in Cardiff scheduled for Sunday.

The Last Dinner Party is an all-female indie band made up of lead vocalist Abigail Morris, guitarist Emily Roberts, rhythm guitarist Lizzie Mayland, bassist Georgia Davies, and keyboardist Aurora Nishevci.

"We're heartbroken that we can't experience these evenings with you and that we missed the performances in Lincoln and Cardiff," the band expressed in a message on their social media.

We want you to know that you have made this year the best of our lives, and we can't express enough how grateful we are for your love and support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

"Thanks to you, TLDP exists today, and we’re eager to continue touring and sharing our music with you for many years to come. However, to achieve that, we need to make some important choices right now to ensure our long-term wellbeing."

After the incident at the Lincoln concert, the band shared a message on their social media, explaining that they were unaware of the security measures in place for the event. They added that these measures would not have been put into action if they had been informed about them beforehand.

The Engine Shed, claiming to be the biggest live music venue in Lincolnshire, shared a message on their official Instagram account explaining that their admission process did not meet their own standards. They emphasized that their policy mandates fair treatment for all attendees, ensuring everyone faces the same entry conditions.

The statement mentioned that the security policy was revised following "incidents" at one of the band's past performances. However, this led to the "unacceptable treatment of certain attendees" during the entry process.

The Last Dinner Party's first album, Prelude To Ecstasy, soared to the top of the charts after it was released in February. It later earned a nomination for this year's Mercury Prize, and the band received the Rising Star award at the Brit Awards.
