Bridge Lane Closures Until Feb 2025

Overnight Closures Pending Confirmation

A big project will start on August 19th to renovate and change the bearings on the A68 Earlston Bridge that crosses over Leader Water.

BEAR Scotland, the company responsible for maintaining Scotland's transportation system, will be completing the project over a span of around five months starting in August 2024 and finishing up in February 2025.

For the next few weeks, there will be restrictions on the lanes of the A68 at Earlston Bridge, located to the south of Earlston town.

The bridge will stay accessible to people walking even while some lanes are closed, and alternative footpaths will be marked out.

There will be no need for traffic control from August 24 to October 13, as the team will be conducting work below the bridge.

During the project, there will be some nighttime closures on the A68 south of Earlston. A detour will be in place for these closures. We will provide more information on these closures once they are finalized.

The site compound will be placed in the layby just south of the bridge, where Myra's Snack Hut is usually located. Myra's Snack Hut has been temporarily relocated to a layby about 400m further south and will continue to operate as usual.

Dave Bishop, who manages the bridges in the South East Unit at BEAR Scotland, mentioned that the bearings on Earlston Bridge are almost done and have to be changed.

"We have scheduled the construction in a way that will minimize inconvenience, but there will be some lane closures and possibly overnight road closures. We will provide updates to the community as soon as we have more information."
