Tesco recalls chicken product unsafe to eat due to use-by date error
According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), certain packages of the supermarket’s Chicken Tsukune Skewers have incorrect labeling, showing a use by date of 23/12/2024 instead of the correct date of 10/12/2024.
Consequently, Tesco is pulling back all packs of the party snacks that have an expiration date of December 23.
The recall announcement warns that extending the expiration date could potentially be harmful to health if the product is stored beyond its recommended shelf life.
The recalled skewers
Customers who have purchased any of the skewers are encouraged to bring them back to any Tesco location for a complete refund, and you don’t need a receipt.
Consuming chicken that has gone past its expiration date poses many health dangers. The Food Standards Agency strongly recommends that individuals should "avoid eating any food after its use-by date, even if it appears fine and doesn't have an off smell, since it could cause serious illness."
"You can consume food up until midnight on the date marked as the use-by date on the package, but not beyond that, unless the food has been cooked or frozen," the website states.
The "sniff test," which can help determine if food past its best-before date is still safe to eat, is not appropriate for items with a use-by date.
