Teofimo Lopez Retains WBO Title Amid Controversy In Vegas
"I am the only one who knows my potential!" - Sheeraz confidently prepared to surprise everyone in the match against Williams.
Teofimo Lopez faced a lot of criticism from the audience in Las Vegas after he won a unanimous points victory over Jamaine Ortiz to defend his WBO world light-welterweight title in a questionable manner.
Ortiz seemed to come out on top in a closely contested match against the two US boxers, which lasted for 12 rounds at the Michelob Ultra Arena.
However, two of the judges had a score of 115-113 while the other judged it as 117-111. Ortiz claimed that the scorecard of 117-111 was simply absurd.
Lopez reacted to the negative reactions from the audience by stating, "Go ahead and boo as much as you like." However, he then proceeded to use a derogatory term about individuals who identify as LGBTQ+.
Afterwards, the individual who is 26 years old challenged the unified welterweight champion, Terence Crawford, to a fight at a specified weight.
Lopez stated, "I am present, and I am prepared. I have a significant appetite, and I am comparatively youthful and more attractive."
On X, Crawford made a statement saying that Lopez had actually been defeated during the fight, even though the judges ruled otherwise.
Crawford stated that despite negative talk about their abilities, they ultimately lost to him.
"I informed him to concentrate on his opponent instead of me. Teofimo Lopez, it looks like you need to start working hard again. You are a loser."
Ortiz prevented Lopez from gaining momentum by moving around the boxing ring and displaying his agility, however, Lopez was dissatisfied with the outcome of the match.
Ortiz declared that he adhered to the predetermined strategy and took heed of the advice from his corner and team. He believed that he was leading in the match.
"I believe that I emerged victorious in the fight. Honestly, my opponent couldn't land a single hit on me throughout the night. It's simply preposterous to suggest that a score of 117-111 is accurate."
