Jay Slater search: Tenerife police call for more volunteers for mass operation

Tenerife Jay Slater

Authorities in Tenerife are asking for additional helpers to participate in a large-scale search of the rugged wilderness area where Jay Slater went missing.

The teenager from Lancashire, who is 19 years old, was last in contact on Monday, June 17th in the morning. He messaged a friend and mentioned that he had run out of water and his phone battery was only at 1%.

Slater had just returned from a trip with his friends and was staying at a vacation rental in a remote area of the island with some fellow festival-goers he had met.

As the hunt for the apprentice bricklayer continued for 12 days, Tenerife police asked for volunteers to sign up for a search on Saturday in the rocky area near where he disappeared.

The police chief of the Civil Guard in Tenerife, Angel Sanz Coronado, announced that they are ready to conduct a large-scale search following the disappearance of a 19-year-old British man on June 17 in the Masca area, which is part of Buenavista del Norte municipality.

Because the area we are searching is hilly and full of rough, uneven ground, as well as various creeks and paths, we are seeking assistance from volunteer organizations to aid in this organized and focused search effort.

The big search will start on Saturday, June 29th at 9:00 AM. We will meet at Mirador de la Cruz de Hilda in Masca to begin searching through the paths and ravines in a organized manner.

David Cameron, the British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, expressed his concern for Slater and stated that the family is receiving consular support.

During a visit to Rolls-Royce in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, Lord Cameron expressed concern for the family and the young man involved. He mentioned that consular officials were currently in Tenerife, speaking with both the family and local authorities in hopes of uncovering more information about the situation.

The authorities have already combed through the Masca canyon in their search for Slater using police dogs, helicopters, and drones, but they were unable to find any sign of him.

He is not the initial individual to vanish in this region, and residents mentioned that it might require several months before the missing persons' remains are discovered.

Slater's mom, Debbie Duncan, has been looking for him on the island for over a week. She still believes that he will be found safe and sound.

A fundraising page created to help find Slater raised over £40,000 by Friday. Duncan mentioned that the funds will go towards covering costs for mountain rescue, lodging, and meals.

In a recent post on the website, created by Slater's pal, she explained: "I just wanted to let everyone know that the money raised will go towards helping the mountain rescue teams who are working tirelessly to find Jay. Also, since we have to stay longer in Tenerife, we will use the funds to pay for our lodging and meals."

I am with amazing people who are here for me, but they are separated from their families. We will use some of the money to bring them to Tenerife so that we can help each other during this difficult period.
