Teams

As the end of April approaches and the 2024 BTCC season begins, we currently have confirmation of only four drivers who will be competing at Donington Park when the championship starts.

Excelr8 Motorsport has announced that Ronan Pearson will be racing for another season in the team's Hyundai i30 Fastback N Performance. Pearson will have another shot at winning the Jack Sears Trophy after failing to make it on the podium in his first season. During his debut season, Pearson came close to finishing in third place in the last race of the Knockhill round, but he allowed his teammate and fellow title contender Tom Ingram to overtake him, securing more points for the team.

If Pearson had persisted, he would not have qualified for the Jack Sears championship in 2024. However, after performing strongly towards the end of his 2023 season, he is determined to win the most prestigious trophy at the end of the year.

In the meantime, Aron Taylor-Smith will be racing again with the Power Maxed Racing team driving the Vauxhall Astra. He did really well during the 2023 season and impressed the team. His top achievements during the season were in Donington Park Grand Prix circuit and Silverstone where he finished second. During the year, he gradually improved as he became more familiar with the Astra.

Taylor-Smith received his first podium results after winning at Rockingham back in 2016 while driving the Team BMR Volkswagen CC. Afterwards, he took a break from racing due to his less than optimal performance while driving the MG 6 GT in 2017. In 2021, he returned with Team HARD and had a successful year driving for Power Maxed Racing, which was a great comeback for him. In the upcoming year, he will continue to race the Astra and strive for more wins.

Mikey Doble Returns To Power Maxed Racing

Mikey Doble has secured his place on the BTCC grid for another season as he has inked a new contract with the Power Maxed Racing squad which will keep him racing with the team up until 2024.

This individual, who was 25 years of age at the time, entered the series in 2023 after achieving success in both the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and the BMW Compact Cup in 2022. As a rookie, Doble had an outstanding season and managed to achieve top ten finishes on three separate occasions in his Power Maxed Vauxhall Astra. He excelled in the second race, which was affected by unusual weather conditions, earning him an Independents victory. His 63 points accumulated throughout the season allowed him to finish 20th overall.

Doble almost won the Jack Sears Trophy award in 2023, but since he hasn't been able to secure a place on the podium yet, he'll have another chance to compete for the trophy in 2024.

Doble expressed that since the exciting finale at Brands Hatch, the team has continued working tirelessly towards ensuring his return to the seat for the 2024 season. My rookie year in 2023 was remarkable, and there were numerous memorable highlights, such as winning in the Independents category on just my second race and securing a pole position at Silverstone. These accomplishments exceeded my expectations by far, and I must attribute much of the success to the PMR team for their dedicated efforts.

Aron Taylor-Smith has been confirmed for a spot on the Vauxhall team, leaving only one more seat to be filled. In 2023, the team welcomed Andrew Watson, who became the champion of the Jack Sears Trophy.

Restart Racing Joins BTCC With Smiley

Chris Smiley, who used to race in BTCC, is making a comeback in 2024 as the head honcho of Restart Racing, a new team in the series.

Restart Racing is preparing to participate in the 2024 British Touring Car Championship with a pair of Cupra Leons. They've spent the past two years competing in TCR UK, concluding with a championship victory in 2022.

The Restart Racing squad has entered the TBLs left behind by Team HARD in the series. Team HARD used to participate in the championship with Cupra Leons. Some of the Restart Racing team members have prior experience in BTCC from their time working at BTC Racing, which later became One Motorsport before the 2023 season.

Smiley, the champion of the 2022 TCR UK, expressed that his heart is set on racing in the BTCC. He shared that he is excited to be back and introduce the Restart Racing team for a new project. Smiley knows that this is the right championship to be in, but he is aware that it is a challenging series. The goal is to establish a long-term race team that will eventually lead them to the top. They have already acquired Cupras and began working on them. These will serve as their foundation to compete with other teams.

Ben Taylor, who used to work as Smiley's race engineer, will now be the Team Principal in charge and he is excited about the chance to participate in the most prestigious touring car racing competition in the nation.

Taylor expressed that winning the TCR UK Championship was a great accomplishment and now it’s time for Restart Racing to explore their potential in the BTCC. The BTCC is globally acclaimed for being one of the most challenging, competitive, and stimulating racing competitions. Therefore, it's inevitble that the team should participate in this league.
