Perry, aged 49, known for his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, was discovered with multiple shark bites following an attack near Goat Island, located on Oahu, according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services. He was declared deceased at the site.

In July of 2015, Perry posted on Facebook about the incident where surfer Mick Fanning was approached by two sharks while surfing in South Africa.

Perry, a strong believer in Christianity, wrote that the situation with Mick at J-Bay shows that Jesus' mercy is more than enough.

"Anyway, I find sharks really scary and I'm relieved that Mick was protected by a higher power today. Only God knows when our time is up."

In a blog post from June 2019, Perry mysteriously hinted that he could feel the presence of sharks in the ocean.

"Is it possible to detect the presence of sharks through smell? I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but I believe I can smell them when they're nearby," he commented.

Following his passing, a friend of Perry's revealed to The Daily Beast that the surfer frequently mentioned that he had encountered and sensed the presence of spirits.

It is known that Perry was surfing while taking a break from his lifeguard job when he was attacked. The species of shark responsible for the attack is still unidentified.

In 1999, Perry achieved success by winning the esteemed Pipeline Master trials. He continued to occasionally participate in surfing competitions throughout his career.

He continued to appear in several Hollywood movies, including the 2002 film about surfing called Blue Crush.

In 2011, he played a role as one of the pirates in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth movie in the series.

He also appeared on television shows like Lost and Hawaii Five-0.

He started working as a lifeguard for the Ocean Safety Department in July 2016. Kurt Lager, the acting chief of Honolulu Ocean Safety, described Mr. Perry as a lifeguard who was adored by everyone.

"He's famous in the North Shore community. He's a professional surfer with a global reputation," Lager stated during a press event. "Tamayo had a charismatic personality that people couldn't resist, and as much as he was adored by others, he loved them even more."

The mayor of Honolulu, Rick Blangiardi, praised Tamayo as a great waterman and someone who was greatly admired. He also expressed sadness over Perry's passing, describing it as a devastating loss.
