Cullen and Lowe seal Swansea win against Cardiff

Swansea City

The footballer Joe Allen from Swansea was not able to join the team when they went against Cardiff due to an injury, which resulted in their loss of the game during the month of September.

Swansea City confirmed once again that they are the dominant team in the south Wales derby by defeating Cardiff City, which made up for their loss in the previous match this season.

Right at the start, the Swans took over and earned their lead as soon as Liam Cullen elegantly volleyed Kyle Naughton's pass into the goal. This was a unique moment of serenity in a very tense environment.

Cardiff played terribly in the first half and were lucky not to get a player sent off after Yakou Meite seemed to hit Harry Darling with his head.

At the beginning of the second half, Cullen missed a penalty kick after Perry Ng brought down Ronald, which gave the visitors a chance to catch their breath.

Swansea had a hard time maintaining their confidence after that and even though they looked nervous when facing Cardiff's efforts to score a tie, they managed to get their fifth out of the six south Wales derbies with a goal from Jamal Lowe in the last minutes of extra time.

Luke Williams' team has improved their ranking in the Championship standings to 14th place thanks to their recent victory. They now have a comfortable eight-point lead over the relegation zone, although other games taking place on Saturday could still impact the standings. Cardiff's ranking, on the other hand, remains unchanged at 11th place, with a five-point gap between them and the teams vying for a place in the playoffs.

The exultant festivities of Swansea when the whistle blew displayed the great significance this match holds for everyone who is associated with the team. This triumph could potentially give a major boost to the team's morale, which is much needed during such a tumultuous season.

Regarding Cardiff, the conclusion of a four-match victory streak in the Championship was disheartening, and served as a disappointing recollection of their subpar performance in this important competition.

For the initial 111 years of this match, no team had been able to win both league games against their opponent. However, Swansea managed to achieve this feat in 2022 and were successful in doing so again last season.

On this occasion, Cardiff had high hopes of creating a new record after surpassing their main opponents in a previous match where they won 2-0 in September.

The Bluebirds have bagged their first win in the south Wales derby since 2021, thus breaking their rivals' streak of four consecutive wins.

Although it happened half a year in the past, the memory of the loss appeared to ignite a strong beginning for Swansea in this match, as they swiftly and energetically took off.

The team who were hosting the game managed to get two corners in the opening minute of the match, with the second one resulting in a forceful left-footed shot by Matt Grimes. However, Nat Phillips made a good effort to deflect the ball with his head.

The audience at home cheered loudly for Swansea and they started the match strong, putting a lot of pressure on their opponents. Cullen missed the goal by shooting wide and Darling hit the bar with a headshot from a great cross by Jamie Paterson.

Cardiff's players were feeling uneasy - they weren't as good as they were last week when they beat Ipswich Town who were close to being promoted. They were lucky not to have a player sent off in the 17th minute.

During a match, Darling knocked Yakou Meite down while trying to get the ball. After Meite stood up, he leaned his head towards Darling's, resulting in both players receiving yellow cards.

Swansea were very angry, which made the performance even more intense than it already was.

They finally achieved their well-deserved goal as Roland made a run from his half of the field towards the Cardiff penalty area, and then passed the ball to Kyle Naughton.

The cross he made positioned nicely at the end of the football field, and Cullen, who came from the Swansea academy, creatively struck the ball with his foot and scored a goal, causing an outbreak of excited cheers and happy dancing.

During the second half, Cullen had a chance to boost his heroic reputation after Ng tripped Ronald. However, the forward for the Swans missed an excellent opportunity when he pushed the spot-kick using his left foot - but it went wide of the left post.

Swansea had been the dominant team up until their penalty miss, but appeared to lose some confidence afterwards. Meanwhile, previously inactive Cardiff noticed a small opportunity.

Erol Bulut, the manager of Bluebirds, took a daring move and made substitutions. He included his entire offensive lineup, Aaron Ramsey, Rubin Colwill, Callum O'Dowda, Ollie Tanner, and Famara Diedhiou. However, despite this, the team couldn't seem to make any real scoring opportunities on the field.

Their performance was characterized by a sense of urgency, and as they pushed more players into attack, their defense became increasingly exposed.

This resulted in the final hit, when Swans replacement player Lowe invaded the Cardiff penalty area, dodged goalkeeper Ethan Horvalth, and shot the ball into the net to secure yet another unforgettable day of rivalry for Swansea.

Luke Williams, the coach of Swansea, expressed his thoughts in an interview.

We emerged victorious in a very constructive manner. It wasn't a situation where we got the win based on some judgment or decision. I am confident that we secured the triumph comprehensively. I cannot dispute the approach we used to achieve success today.

I believe they possessed a blend of determination and assertiveness coupled with serenity and precision - a quality we all hope to achieve.

In my opinion, we have witnessed some impressive displays lately. However, today's performance seemed to be the most well-rounded and comprehensive one yet.

For about an hour, we appeared to be in control. It's not practical to assume that we won't experience any stress, nevertheless, I believe that we were extremely powerful for most of the game and we generated all of the significant opportunities.

The boss of Cardiff, Erol Bulut:

In my opinion, the initial half-hour proved to be a major let-down both for me and my team. We were well aware that Swansea would mount pressure, however, we failed to make the most of it by not being able to handle their pressing tactics efficiently.

In my view, the initial objective was unlawful on Ng's part. However, the referee disagreed and awarded the penalty for Ng's actions of pulling. It was almost an identical scenario.

The initial period was not satisfying and not aligned with our expectations, however, the latter part of the event was significantly improved.

"We won't lose hope. There are still eight games left for us to play, and during the international break, we'll work hard to come back with even greater strength."

The game is over and the final score is Swansea City 2, Cardiff City 0.
