2024 Super Bowl odds, opening line: 49ers sit as favorites over Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII as betting begins

Super Bowl 2024

The NFL's Championship Weekend was truly remarkable. The Kansas City Chiefs secured their second consecutive surprise win on foreign territory, completely eliminating Baltimore Ravens, who were the top seed in the competition, with a score of 17-10. Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers managed to make an incredible comeback during the second half of their game against Detroit Lions, earning themselves a place in Las Vegas.

Bookmakers hurried to establish betting odds for the ultimate NFL game of the year. The initial numbers indicated that the 49ers were marginally favored over the Chiefs and an overall score of approximately 50 points.

It is important to note that the betting lines are constantly changing and will likely continue to do so. Various sports betting websites have already posted updated odds and totals. The San Francisco 49ers have not performed well against the point spread during the playoffs, losing both games they were favored in, whereas the Kansas City Chiefs have won all three games they were favored in.

The upcoming game is a replay of Super Bowl LIV, where Patrick Mahomes beat Jimmy Garoppolo by 31-20 due to a 21-point last quarter from Kansas City. Nonetheless, the 49ers are currently playing with a new quarterback who has helped them get back to the grandest stage of all.

The Chiefs are trying to make history by becoming the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the 2003-04 New England Patriots. Meanwhile, their star quarterback, Mahomes, will be playing in his fourth Super Bowl game before he reaches the age of 30, a record-setting achievement. Mahomes has shown that he feels at home playing in Allegiant Stadium by winning all four games he has played there and scoring ten touchdowns while only throwing one interception.

The 49ers are going to their eighth Super Bowl, which is the same amount as the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos. If they win, they will have the same amount of Super Bowl victories as the Steelers and Patriots, which is six. Brock Purdy was picked last in the 2022 draft and will become the quarterback with the lowest draft pick to ever start a Super Bowl. The only other undrafted quarterbacks who started a Super Bowl are Kurt Warner and Jake Delhomme. Purdy is also only the third-youngest quarterback to start in a Super Bowl.

Only two teams remain standing and the ultimate showdown will take place on February 11th, which will be broadcasted on CBS.
