REGIS Le Bris acknowledges that Zak Johnson may be loaned out from Sunderland this month - however, he believes that the young defender has great potential for the future at the club.

Johnson was on the field for the entire 90 minutes when the Black Cats were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Preston on Tuesday night.

Johnson featured in the right-back position for Deepdale, however Le Bris believes that the 19-year-old's strongest position lies in the central defense. He acknowledges that Sunderland has a strong lineup in that position, which is why a temporary move through a loan might be the most suitable option for him this season.

Last season, the young adult had two brief times away from the Stadium of Light. First, they spent a short amount of time with Hartlepool before having a very productive period with Dundalk.

And there will be plenty of people interested if Sunderland approve another loan.

Regis Le Bris shares his optimism for the fringe players of Sunderland following their loss against Preston in the Carabao Cup.

New Sunderland player performs well in match against Preston, even though they lost in the Carabao Cup.

"He was positioned as a right back in today's match, so it was a new role for him," Le Bris commented following the game on Tuesday evening.

He excels as a centre-back. He is always eager to improve his skills. He consistently puts in maximum effort, and I appreciate that kind of dedication in a player.

There are a lot of players competing for the same position at the club, so it might be beneficial for both him and the club to go out on loan. However, I appreciate his positive attitude and commitment to the game and training sessions.

One player that Sunderland has already chosen not to include in the game against Preston is Timothee Pembele.

The Black Cats are looking to loan out the 21-year-old player this season, but are still in the process of finalizing a deal for the full-back.

Le Bris mentioned that they are exploring the option of taking out a loan, but there is currently no imminent agreement.
